WOW, what an amazing first full week back we have had. The children have all been amazing and have settled in really well. It has been great spending time getting to know all the children through lots of play inside and outside. Last week we spent lots time exploring our preschool classroom and outside space. We have also been busy looking after the chickens and Snickers the Hamster.
On Monday and Wednesday morning we did PE. We played a game called traffic lights and had a go at taking off and putting on our shoes and socks. The game was all about moving in diffrent ways and stopping and going. We had to use our listening ears to follow instructions.
Also on Monday morning we watched a great BMX show and the man did some amazing tricks. We have also been playing in small groups a game which involved taking turns, recognising colours and spinning a spinner.
Throughout the week we have enjoyed constructing with the stickle bricks, magnetic shapes and duplo animals. In the number area we have been playing with the peg boards. We have been using the whiteboards and pens to mark make. In the small world area we have been playing with the Winnie the Pooh scene. On our finger frenzy table this week we have been playing with the geoboards and elastic bands. On the playdough table we have been using a variety of tools e.g. rolling pins, shape cutters and gems. We have had the home corner role play, puzzles, games and train set. in room 2.
Throughout the week we have been looking in the mirror and painting our self portrait. We talked about our face features and colours. Here is a display of our self portraits.
Here are some of our paintings and drawings we have done this week:-
We met Respectful Raya which is one of our Building learning Powers. Here is some information about Respectful Raya:-
Some Photos from the week:-
For the next two weeks we will be sharing the story of Shark in the Park which is one of the children's favourite stories. We will also be sharing the different variations of the story including shark in the park on a windy day and shark in the dark. This is a great story with repeated refrains and lots of positional language. Throughout the week we will be doing lots of activities linked to the story and the children’s interests including telescopes, shape hunts, cooking and drama along with lots more.
Home learning
Visit your local park for a play. Can you swing, jump, balance and climb? Which playground equipment is your favourite?
Use a clothes peg to make your own shark. You could draw straight onto the peg; just draw on some spikey teeth; cut out a shark shape and stick it on or just use your imagination. Use your shark peg to go around the house and see what your shark can bite and even pick up. Can it pick up some paper? A sock? The stem of an apple? A hair band? Etc. The action needed to use a peg requires important finger muscles that your children need to develop at this age. If you use the peg for a while, they will start to feel it in their fingers! We would love to see your shark pegs. Please do bring them into show your friends.
Notices
Please do bring in any cardboard tubes you have home this week as we will be making telescopes for our shark hunt.
If you could provide us with a clearly marked water bottle that we can keep at preschool all year. This way we can ensure the children have access to fresh drinking water throughout the days with us. We find the children drink more from their own bottles. Can all drinks bottles be able to be placed in the dishwasher.
Every week there will be a blog about everything we have done during the week, what is happening at pre-school in the next week, home learning you may like to do and notices. This is normally published on a Sunday evening.
We place all lunch boxes in the fridge, please label lunch boxes and drinks bottles with your child's name. If you would like to order your child a hot lunch, please speak to a member of staff and Caroline will arrange a hot lunch code for you.
It would great if all pre-school t-shirts and jumpers can be named.
It was lovely to see you at our parents Information session on Monday evening. A video recording of this session will be released shortly. Please do take time to watch as there is lots of important information for the year ahead of adventures.
On Thursday afternoon at 3.10pm we invite you to come to story time. Please come to the door which you drop off and collect from.
Please bring any WOW's for our WOW board you have and if you need some WOW slips, please pick some up from the notice board outside.
