Hello everyone

 Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a wonderful weekend and have enjoyed the beautiful spring sunshine. It is so lovely to see all the spring flowers beginning to flower and being able to get out in the lovely weather. Our spring bulbs are about to flower and we are really looking forward to seeing them.

Last week we had a great week settling back into preschool and exploring the topic of Fairtrade. We found out about the logo and we explained the term Fairtrade using a chocolate bar which we then enjoyed tasting! We also used some Fairtrade bananas to make some banana bread, it smelt very yummy. We enjoyed sharing the story of Pablo the banana and Charlie and Lola Fairtrade story. A challenge for home this week... Can you find the Fairtrade Logo? We used tissue paper to create our own Fairtrade bananas. We made a large Fairtrade logo using shiny foil. We have really enjoyed playing with the coffee granules with cups, pestle and mortars, different sized spoons and exploring the texture through our senses. We have been very busy creating models with the Duplo and using our models in play. We have been busy building with the wooden blocks and the large transparent wooden blocks in building towers. We have explored magnets and how they work. We discovered which objects are magnetic and not magnetic. Also we used the magnets to go round the classroom and find objects which were magnetic. We used vocabulary including attracting and repelling. We also shared the story of Handa's Surprise and using the fruits and playmobil people and animals to retell the stories ourselves.  We have really enjoyed exploring outside this week in the warmer weather. On Tuesday we had PE with Mr Treble and used the apparatus to do some balancing and jumping off and landing with two feet. We played the game of pirate treasure which is one of our favourites.

This week we will be continuing to settle back into pre-school and exploring the topic of Frogspawn, tadpoles and frogs as last week we found some frogspawn in our school pond and Arthur has bought some frog spawn in from his pond.  We will be learning about the life cycle of a frog through stories and a variety of activities. On Thursday we will be celebrating World Book Day with a variety of activities.

Hello everyone

Hi everyone,

We hope you have all had a great weekend and enjoyed getting out in the fresh wintry air.  Let's hope we get a sprinkle of  snow this week.

We have love seeing all your amazing home learning you have been sending in. Keep sending all the wonderful things you are up to by emailing them to j.nineham@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk and  headteacher@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk.

Last week we explored shapes through a variety of activities. We went out on a shape hunt around the school grounds and spotted lots of different shapes. We made some shape monsters and did some shape printing. We then turned our shape printing into things. We had great fun playing the pizza shape game. We also went to soft play and built with the large 3d shapes. In the playground we drew lots of shapes with chalk and played a game of jumping into the correct shape. We enjoyed playing the games of guess the shape. We closed our eyes and picked a shape and described it e.g. it has 3 sides and 3 points, its a triangle. We did lots of describing of shapes. At snack time we had a variety of different shaped snacks. On Tuesday we had Mr Treble and we went on the large climbing apparatus. We were amazing at climbing up, down and across  the frame and the ladders. Throughout the week we have enjoyed playing with the puppet theatre and making up our own puppet shows, we enjoyed making play dough shape cakes and decorating them with gems, playing with the magnetic shapes and constructing dog homes with the shapes and plastic dogs, sharing lots of stories and playing outside.

This week we are going to be exploring China and Chinese New Year with a variety of activities including some yummy food tasting. If you have any resources to support this theme at home, please do bring them in.

Things you might like to do at home this week...

Everyday Mr Spracklen has Good morning POW at 9.30, 11.20 virtual assembly and 4.00pm Evening POW. This can be accessed on Facebook and you tube and is a great way of seeing what everyone is up to. It's really interactive and guarantee to make you smile.

In the home learning packs that have been coming home, we have included the Read Write Inc cards. At the moment we are just learning the picture names through a variety of games like hide and seek, fishing the picture etc.

Rainbow Salt Tray:-

WHAT YOU WILL NEED?

You will need 5 basic things to create your very own Rainbow Salt Tray: about 100g cooking salt, sticky tape, coloured paper, a tray (see below for some ideas) and a paint brush.

  1. Cut the paper to fit and cover the base of the tray in order of the colours of a rainbow.
  2. Place sticky tape over the joins of the paper to avoid the salt moving underneath the coloured paper.
  3. Cover the paper lightly with salt.

Tip: Only a small amount of salt is required for this activity as too much can make it harder to see the drawings.  You can also make your tray any colour you would like, possibly your child’s favourite colour, whatever motivates or interests them!

Ice boats Water play:

WHAT YOU WILL NEED?

You will need food colouring, straws, sticky tape and craft foam for the sail as it is water proof and light.  You will also need containers for freezing the water in; I reused some empty yoghurt containers and just cut the height down to size.  I added yellow and red food colouring to the water to make this sensory play a bit more interesting.

  • You can basically use any materials to make the sail for the boat but do keep in mind that it needs to be light and well balanced with the size of the ice boats as the sail can flip the boat upside down if it is too heavy.
  • I added the straw sails to the ice boats when they were partly frozen.  You could alternatively use blu tac or plasticine at the bottom of the container when adding the water.
Maths Challenge:-

Can you find....

1 toothbrush
2 spoons
3 books
4 socks
5 shoes

February Get Fit

To help combat the lockdown, winter blues and to inspire your household this February to get fit...Here at the Prince of Wales School we are challenging all children to increase their fitness throughout February - and beyond.

You could try something new everyday like: trampoline, stretching, yoga, ball skills, Joe Wicks or dancing.

To help motivate your child to walk, run, cycle or scoot we are challenging the school to record how many KMs we can travel in the month.

Fill in the form below every time you do some exercise and help us to reach our target -

https://forms.gle/SwuMPDbEudZhZFE26

There will also be competitions between each class to see which year group travels the furthest.

Please share any photos and videos of anything that gets your child moving.

Thank you in advance for your contiunued support.

Window Wanderland and an extra arty challenge! Jiggly Jellyfish! - 4th February 2021

Window Wanderland and an extra arty challenge! Jiggly Jellyfish! - 4th February 2021

Window Wanderland and an extra arty challenge Jiggly Jellyfish

Hopefully you have all received your latest lockdown goody pack today!  You will find included some tissue paper and some black card to help you join in with this week's challenge.

#InspiredToLearn - Lockdown 2 - Week 5 Challenge

We have been asked by Window Wanderland to take part in a Dorchester Wide community event!

Window Wanderland is coming to Dorchester on 19th-21st February, 6-9pm.

This event asks people to decorate a window at home as part of a window trail around our local community.

Window Wanderland’s aim is to bring the whole community together to create a magical outdoor gallery of hope and solidarity, at this difficult time.

They are asking everybody, from individuals to businesses, to register and create a window display on the theme,

'A Brighter Future.'

All are invited to view the wonderful windows and Dorchester's community spirit on a safe, Covid-friendly evening walk.

It would be great if you would consider signing up and creating a window even if you don’t live in the local community or want to take part in the actual event.

If you do want to be part of the trail, registration is quick and simple at: www.windowwanderland.com/Dorchester

If you have enjoyed getting Arty with your own windows and fancy an extra challenge how about making a Jiggly Jelly Fish to hang in a shop window?

Then you need #InspiredToLearn EXTRA ARTY CHALLENGE!

We have been approached by Store6 in Poundbury to help us decorate their windows with your models of Jellyfish made from recycled materials.  If you fancy joining in and seeing your design in a shop window during the window wanderland event, please bring your completed jellyfish to school by next Friday 12th February and place it in the box inside the front entrance.  Please add your name and a hanging thread to your design so that it can be hung up for all to see!

Don't forget to look out for your design if you take part in the Window Wanderland Event between the 19th and 21st of February.
