Hello everyone

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a great weekend and had some fun times.

Last week we continued exploring our learning of dinosaurs. On Monday we were very excited to see what had hatched out of dinosaur egg. The weather was beautiful and sunny and we used the toy dinosaurs on white paper to see the shadows they made. We drew around the outline of the shadows and observed what happened when you moved the dinosaurs into different positions. On Tuesday we painted our dinosaur fossils which we made last week. We looked at the dinosaur imprints in the fossils. We enjoyed making some stick dinosaur puppets using lollypop sticks.

On Wednesday we did the dinosaur stomp song which was lots of fun and moving like dinosaurs. Here is the link if you would like to do it at home:-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Imhi98dHa5w

On Thursday some of us made some edible fossil cookies to bring home. They looked very yummy.

We have really enjoyed sharing some more dinosaur stories and information books.

On Tuesday we had PE with Mr Treble and we played a game called Bunnies. There were hoops around the hall and when Mr Treble clapped his hands we had to run to a burrow (Hoop) before he caught us. Each time he took a hoop away. We also did some balancing and climbing some large steps.

Throughout the week we have enjoyed the frozen dinosaur eggs and using hammers to free the dinosaurs from the ice. We also found if we put the ice under warm water it melted the ice away. We have been mark making with whiteboard pens on foil and seeing how easy it is to wipe it clean. We also enjoyed exploring the water colours and how to paint with them. We had the opportunity to paint some daffodils. Outside we have enjoyed organising our own ring games including duck duck goose, what the time Mr Wolf and using the crates to enable us to score shoots in the basket ball net. We really like building marble runs which are really tall and adapting them as we go along. We have been observing the eggs which are in the incubator and looking for any changes.

Here are some pictures from the week:-

This week we will be doing lots of Easter/Spring activities and we are all very excited as the eggs will be hatching in the next 3 days. There will be a live webcam on facebook when they start hatching.  On Thursday we have got our sponsored POWSA bunny hop.

Hello everyone

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a lovely weekend.

Last week we enjoyed listening to the story of  Stomp Chomp Big Roars Here come the dinosaurs by Nick Sharratt along with lots of other dinosaur stories. We learnt some new dinosaur songs and enjoyed watching Andy dinosaur adventures on CBeebies. On Tuesday we put our large dinosaur egg in a bowl of water and we have had great fun observing the changes. The eggs has been cracking and when the children come to pre-school next week they will see what's inside the egg. There has been lots of discussions of what it might be and what type of dinosaur it is.  We have enjoyed making our own dinosaur worlds with natural resources we have found around in the garden. We have made some dinosaur fossils using flour, salt, bicarbonate  of soda. We pressed the dinosaur into the dough and then took them out and saw the imprint left. We then put them in the oven to bake. We will be exploring them this week and painting them.
On Friday afternoon we pretended we were fossil dinosaurs outside and our friends pretended to discover us and we came alive as dinosaurs and moving like dinosaurs.
We talked about what the word herbivorous and carnivorous means.
On Friday it was Red Nose Day and we designed our own funny red nose and listened to a story about a little girl who needed a wheelchair and how the money from Red Nose Day enabled her to have a wheelchair. In the afternoon we decorated a cake with a funny face and red icing and we enjoyed eating these for snacks.

On Tuesday we had PE with Mr Treble and we used the apparatus to balance, climb and jump. We are doing really well at balancing. We also played a new game called dodgeball. We ran around the hall and had to dodge the balls rolling around on the floor.

Throughout the week we have really enjoyed being archaeologists looking for dinosaur bones in the sand. We used small spoons, brushes and tools to discover the hidden dinosaur skeletons. We have been using pasta in the playdough to make dinosaur skeletons.  We have been painting our own dinosaurs at the painting easel. Also we have continued to enjoy the small world space table. We have been creating with the wooden blocks and exploring and naming the different types of dinosaurs.  On the number table we have been recognising numerals on the dinosaurs and putting the correct number of spikes on the dinosaur.
Throughout the week in the afternoon we really liked playing Duck Duck Goose outside.

Here are some pictures:-

This week we will be continuing exploring dinosaurs with lots more stories and information books. We have got some more exciting activities to support our learning. We will be continuing to observe our eggs in the incubator which are due to hatch the following week. There will be a live web cam during the hatching which you will be able to see on the school facebook page.
We will also be planting some potatoes this week.

Hello everyone

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a lovely weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all our amazing mum's.

Last week we had great fun with a variety of science experiments throughout the week. On Monday we did the dancing raisins experiment. We predicted what might happen when you add raisins, popcorn seeds, pasta to lemonade. We then found natural objects outside and added them to the lemonade. On Tuesday we experimented with food colouring and milk along with celery and coloured water. The next day we saw that the veins in the celery had changed coloured. On Wednesday we put our eggs in the incubator and talked about what the incubator does and how long it will take till the eggs hatch (21 days). On Thursday we learnt about how it rains through an experiment with shaving foam, blue food colouring and water. On Friday we did an experiment with bicarbonate of Soda and vinegar. We also made large bubbles over our friends using hoops. This was amazing fun.

On Tuesday we had PE with Mr Treble and we used a variety of benches to balance along and jumping off and landing on two feet. We also played the sleepy pirate game which we love to play.

Throughout the week we have enjoyed making our mummies a surprise for Mother's Day. We really enjoyed drawing a picture of our choice on the slices and then choosing which colour tissue paper to wrap it up in. We then wrapped up our gift and wrote our name on the tag and attached it. We hope you liked them. They make great coasters.

During the week we have enjoyed exploring the metal detectors in the sand and around pre-school and finding out how they worked. We discovered that they beep when they find metal.
In the messy area we have enjoyed exploring cornflour, shaving foam and cooked spaghetti with the scissors. We have enjoyed playing and creating with the wooden blocks with the frogs. We made them homes and habitats to live in. We had great fun playing with the Space small world play with space ships, astronauts, aliens and black grit/coloured pebbles. We sang the song of 5 little men in a flying saucer. We are continuing to enjoy playing in the supermarket role play area. We have continued to observe how the frog spawn is changing into tadpoles. We have been enjoying playing outside and have been using our imagination to make up our play. We enjoyed playing outside in the rain in our all in one suits and wellies. We used wet chalk to create pictures on the playground floor.

This week we will continue with settling back into preschool and exploring and find out all about dinosaurs. We have got lots of stories and non fiction books about dinosaurs which we will be sharing throughout the next two weeks. We will be sharing in particular the story of Stomp Chomp Big Roars Here come the dinosaurs by Nick Sharratt.  We have also got lots of exciting activities to support the children's learning and knowledge further. We will also be continuing to observe our eggs in the incubator.

Hello everyone

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a great weekend enjoying the sunshine and enjoying the outdoors.

Last week we had a great week learning about all the Frog life cycle and celebrating world book day. We read a variety of stories about frogs and visited the school pond to look at the frog spawn. We have got some Frog spawn in a tank in preschool and we have been using the magnifying glasses to take a closer look. We have noticed that we have a couple of Tadpoles now. We have been drawing pictures of the frog spawn and the tadpoles. We have enjoyed singing the 5 speckled frogs song especially with the  frogs in the Gelibaff. We have been making a display of the frog life cycle and to make the frogspawn, tadpole and froglets we did some bouncy tights  painting which was great fun.

On Tuesday we had PE with Mr Treble and we played sleepy pirate which we love playing. Mr Treble was the sleepy pirate and we had to catch the treasure whilst he was a sleep. When he woke up we had to freeze. We also played the bunny game with hoops. we had to move around in different ways and when he clapped his hands we had to run to a hoop as our burrow.

On Thursday it was World Book Day and it was great to see all the fantastic nursery rhyme characters. We enjoyed singing a variety of nursery rhymes at group time. We watched a couple of share a story on the world book day website . We went in small groups around school and listened to a variety of stories.

Throughout the week we have been exploring counting and solving number problems with a muffin tray, cupcakes cases and marbles. We have had great fun exploring with the torches and the different coloured transparent material along with shadows. We have been using our first hand experiences of role playing in the supermarket shop. We have played the frog number game in small groups and have enjoying hopping the frogs into the bowl.

This week we will continue with settling back into preschool and  have got a science themed week so we will be doing lots of exploring and experimenting through a variety of activities. Also we will be making a lovely surprise for Mother's Day.

Home learning Challenges:-

Socks and shoe challenge:-

Can you challenge yourself to put your socks and shoes on all by yourself?

FRED talk game:-

Animals

Using FRED TALK  name an animal and the children make the noise of that animal.

  1. Say ‘Fred wants you to make the noise of a h-or-se’.

  2. Pause to see if they can blend and make the noise of a

    horse.

  3. Say ‘h-or-se, horse’. Ask children to repeat.

    9. Magic dancing milk

For this activity – an engaging introduction to chemical reactions – you’ll need a shallow dish, full-fat milk, food colouring, cotton buds and washing up liquid. Pour some milk into the dish, add some drops of food colouring, then dab with a cotton bud dipped in washing up liquid. Use a few different colours at the same time for maximum impact, and try dabbing in different places.
