Carnival !!

26th June.
Dear Parents,
We have two lovely carnival poems to enjoy this week ahead of us joining the school the following week in a whole school topic about the Olympics and Brazil.
So this week the children have the opportunity to explore carnival style music, joining in using bells, drums, shakers  and whistles. We will be making masks, enjoy dressing up, and using lots of bright colours for arts and crafts.
We also plan to have lots of different sports and games to enjoy , weather permitting!

JIGSAW. The children have been enjoying visiting their new classes and teachers, and we will continue to read lots of stories and poems about going into school.

Don't forget Mr Gibson's talk about reading and writing on Tuesday in the hall. Everyone is welcome. There will be lots of interesting and useful  information to help with the next step to reading and writing.

continue from last week!

19th June
Dear Parents,
just a short blog this evening to tell you the children will be continuing with the activities we started last week, within IT and mathematics.
Also this coming week the school is taking part in the DASP (Dorset area schools partnership)  literacy week with the theme of 'desert island discs'.  With our children we are going to reflect on which books we have enjoyed  this past year and and make a list of our favourite places to listen to a story.
Weather permitting we will be going to watch sports days at school.

lots to do!

12th June.
Dear Parents,
We have lots of small themes running through the next 2 or 3 weeks.
This next week many of  the children will be creating something for Fathers day.
We will also be celebrating another birthday, that of Winnie the Pooh who is also 90!
The children will also continue to match number to numerals, and look at big numbers.
The children's other task this week will be to complete IT activities, this is a 'next steps' for many children following our IT activities when we enjoyed our beach theme.
The children will enjoy these through using the 'bee bot' and the computers at school and pre school.
Will any of the children be interested in the football competition? if so we have some activities and tasks ready.
(if you are not familiar with 'bee bot' do ask)

DON'T FORGET . The summer fayre is on Friday 24th June after school, there will be ice creams, tea and coffee, games and a barbeque, a lovely way to start the weekend.

The Queen's birthday

5th June.
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to the 2nd half of the summer term. one of many changes for the children (and parents!) as they prepare for their next big step.
However a busy half term to come, and one which we hope the children will enjoy, with lots of activities and play outside to enjoy.
This week we will be celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday. We will be re visiting the book 'The Queen's Hat' and looking at the new book in the series called 'The Queen's Handbag'. The books will remind the children of the landmarks in London and some new ones around the country, such as Windsor Castle.
The children will be making a  poster about the Queen as a group, and within mathematics  we will be looking at big numbers and numerals.
We will be singing songs such as the grand old duke of York, and they're changing guards at Buckingham Palace.
The children will have opportunities to build castles and play with small world knights and princesses.
One morning all pre school will be replicating a street party at snack time, a decision on which morning will be made according to the weather forecast.
The children in on Friday will be enjoying a morning with reception class, and in the afternoon will be taking part in a whole school picnic to celebrate the Queen's birthday.

STAY AND PLAY this half term will be;
wed 8th June.
thurs 16th June
fri   24th June
wed 29th June
thurs  7th Jul
Fri 15th July.

REMEMBER! this time of year the children often get very wet and messy outside, so check your child's changing bag has summer clothes in that they haven't grown out of !

Don't forget to bring any pictures, stamps, coins or anything else you have found with the Queen's picture on.
