Global Awareness

Hello Everyone,

Last week we began the week talking about what we knew about Africa and what we would like to find out. We looked at the big atlas to see where Africa was in the world and where we lived. On Monday Morning we went on our flight to Moscow. We went through airport control and then got into the Prince of Wales Plane (School hall) and flew to Moscow. The children really enjoyed this imaginative role play. We looked at the African flags and then made our african flags.
On Tuesday we went on a safari. We watched a video of an african Safari. We saw all the different animals that live in Africa. On Wednesday we read the story of Handa's Surprise. We tried all the different fruits from the story over the week for our snack. I was very proud of the children trying new foods. We also painted Handa's surprise fruit basket. These will be used for the art display at school. On Thursday we listened to some African music and then went to the school hall and used the Afican drums to copy rhythms and make up our own. On Friday we did our gummy bear dance at the dance show. The children have really enjoyed doing this dance and were amazing at showing the rest of school and parents the dance. Well done Pre-school.
We have also been talking about how we can look after our world by recycling. The children have made some recycling bins for plastic, paper and food waste.

This week we will be joining the school with Global Awareness fortnight and we will be learning all about Africa. Over the next week we will be exploring musical instruments, foods, safari, animals, jewellery, housing, music, songs and lot's more.

Jack and the beanstalk

Hello everyone,

Wow, what a great first week back from half term. The children have really enjoyed the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Whilst reading the story the children have been joining in with the giants repeated refrains and the missing words that the adult leaves out. On Tuesday we talked about what we had been doing in the half term holiday and then we drew some pictures of our memories of half term. Over the week we have begun playing the game Beans and throwing the bean bags into the bucket. We also recorded how many bean bags we could get in the bucket. On Wednesday morning we had a group photograph taken. We all really enjoyed having our photo taken and the photography made us smile lots. On Wednesday we found the Poundbury Florist lonely bouquet of flowers outside the fence. We collected them and on Thursday we drew pictures of the jar of flowers. Julia took our pictures to the florist to show. The copies will be up on display this week. On Wednesday afternoon a group of children went up to the vegetable patch to water our plants. We found some Rhubarb to pick. Henry had a great idea about making a rhubarb cake. We though about what ingredients we would need to make the cake and collected the eggs from the chickens. We washed and cut up the rhubarb using a knife and then made a cake mixture. We hope you liked the rhubarb cake.
We have been planting our own magic beans to bring home. We talked about what a bean would need to be able to grow and designed a castle for the top of our stick. When your beanstalk begins to grow, we would love to see some photos. How tall will your beanstalk grow?
We have also been very busy with lot's of gardening over the week. On Friday afternoon we joined Reception and Year 1 and enjoyed playing and learning outside together.
The children have really enjoyed retelling the story of Jack and the beanstalk in the small world area and also making their own beanstalk using hoops, green leaves and spaghetti on the Finger frenzy table.

This week we will be continuing with our Jack and beanstalk stories as the children are really enjoying this. We will also be creating our Father's Day cards and making a yummy treat for our Dad's. We will be sharing some Dad stories and talking about our dad's during group time.
