Hello everyone,

Last week we finished our own pictures using objects we collected from our beach trip. The photos are on display in room 1. The children enjoyed using the the different objects to create their own picture. On Monday the children took part in an obstacle course in the school hall and explored moving in different ways, balancing and jumping of an object. We used different materials to collage sealife, seaside objects and people to finish our seaside picture. On Wednesday morning Jesse bought in his 5 tortoises. We learnt about tortoises and how to look after them. We got to touch them and see what they feel like. Afterwards we made our own tortoise for snack using kiwi and grapes and on the drawing table (see the display in classroom 2.) Towards the end of the week we began talking about and sharing stories about under the sea. We made our own octopus using beads to make 8 legs with the correct number of beads on each tentacle. We have been riding our bikes and scooters around the school playground which we have really enjoyed doing.
On Friday Olive bought in her caterpillars for us to see. We observed what they looked like and talked about the life cycle of a caterpillar. We read a story called the crunching munching caterpillar which was a story about a caterpillar that wanted to fly. We drew some pictures of Olive's caterpillar and by the end of the day, one caterpillar had gone into a cocoon.
On Friday afternoon we made our own pizza's for snack using a choice of toppings. We spread the sauce, grated cheese and chopped different toppings.

Our learning this week...Seaside

Hello everyone,

Last week we began our learning about the seaside. On Monday Sebastian bought a book in called Pirates love underpants. The children really enjoyed this story and wanted to act it out. We used the pirate ship in the playground to act out the story. We also made our own Treasure pants using different craft materials. There is a display up in classroom 1. On Tuesday afternoon we went to the roundhouse and explored inside the roundhouse.
On Wednesday morning we went to Bowleaze cove with the reception class. We went on the big yellow bus. When we were at the beach we split into 4 groups with reception children to do some activities. We made sandcastle and channels with Sharon. We made pictures using stones and wood with Julia. We did some estimating and sorting of objects with Tracy and Mr Gibson. We did some collecting with Karen and Mrs Howell. After our activities we had snack altogether. It was a fantastic trip and children were all amazing.  (Pictures of our trip will be up this week)
On Thursday we went to the Life education van and met Harold the giraffe. Harold and hid friend talked to use about our bodies and how to look after them. We talked about inside our bodies e.g. heart, lungs, ribs, stomach and bones. We then talked about how we care for our bodies e.g. keeping clean, brushing teeth and brushing hair. The children had a go at looking after Harold. We sang Head, shoulders, knees and toes to explore what happened to our bodies when we exercise. We learnt about why our bodies need sleep and we got to go to sleep looking at the stars.
When we got back to Pre-school we helped to look after our dollies. In the afternoon we played some games and running races to see what happens when we exercise and we talked about how we can keep our bodies healthy. (There will be a display up this week)
On Friday we began using the things we collected at the beach to make a picture and then use the Ipad to take a photo.

This week we will be continuing our learning about the seaside and later on in the week looking the things that live under the sea. We will be finishing off our pictures with objects collected from the beach. On Wednesday Jesse is bringing in his tortoise to show everyone and talk about them.

The seaside

Hello Everyone,

Last Tuesday we had our Grandparents elevenses. It was lovely to see so many Grandparents enjoying their time with us and the children really enjoyed sharing their snack, giving a tour of their pre-school and playing with their favourite toys/games inside and outside. There are some great photographs are up in the corridor.
Last week we enjoyed learning about maps and sharing the maps of places we had been during group time. The children were able to identify the different colours and symbols on the map and what they represented.
The children had a go at making their own treasure maps by making their paper change colour using tea and then drawing their maps using felt tips.
On Thursday and Friday, Megan our student planned a treasure hunt for the children to do. They really enjoyed looking for treasure in the preschool playground.
We have been observing our beans grow in the classroom and we are pleased that they've finally  began to shoot. Have your magic beans begun to grow or even reached the castle yet? It would be lovely to see some photos.
Jennie Jigsaw has been talking to us this week about making friends. In letters and sounds we have been singing songs, rhyming, copying body sequence and initial sounds of words.

This week we will be doing Beebot as we ran out of time last week. The children will be programming him to go different places on maps and using Beebot on the iPads.
On Tuesday we will be doing an obstacle course in the hall.

Hello everyone,

We hope you all had a wonderful May Bank Holiday.

Last week we all enjoyed listening to the story of Jack and the beanstalk. We were really good at recalling the story along with the characters, settings and main events. We planted our own beans to grow to our castle. (When they have grown it would be great to see some photos.) On Wednesday afternoon the children made magic bean stew. It looked very yummy. For our snack last week we tried different types of green beans and on Friday we had baked beans on toast. We learnt a new game called beans which involves the children moving in different ways depending on the types of bean. Outside the children have been planting beans in the garden along with playing a bean bag by seeing how many they can get in the bucket. On Friday morning we acted out the story of Jack and the beanstalk which they really enjoyed and wanted to do it again. So we did in the afternoon.  On Thursday the giant left us a note about finding objects in the classroom and outside which were as big, smaller or the same length as his footprint. The children used rollers to find different objects to answer the giants questions. Display will go up this week. We have started a bean experiment in the classroom to see how beans grow e.g. roots, shoot and stem and to see which ones grow quickest. There are on the washing line in classroom 1.

This week we will be  beginning our topic of maps and pirates which the children had a great interest in before the Easter holidays. Thank you for all those who have bought maps in. We will be using them during the week. We will be looking at different types of maps and listening to pirate stories. We will be making our own maps along with a treasure hunt at the end of the week. We will be using Beebot as the children have asked to use them again. We will be setting challenges for Beebot.

Letters and sounds:- sorting groups of objects that begin with same sound, copying a sequence of body sounds and musical instruments.

Home Learning:- Can you think of a rhyming string e.g cat, hat, mat, rat?

Notices:-

Grandparent's snack is on Tuesday 1st May starting from 10.15. We looking forward to welcoming the children's grandparents to join us for snack and to see all the different things we do at Pre-school.
