Hello everyone...

Hello everyone,
We hope you have all had a great Bonfire weekend despite the rain. Last week we enjoyed sharing lots of pumpkin stories including Pumpkin soup by Helen Copper. This was great a book about a group of animals working together to make pumpkin soups and to share the roles in making pumpkin soup.
On Tuesday we did some threading using a pumpkin template, wool and a needle.  It develop our pincer grip and threading in and out and back to front. We then drew a face on our pumpkins. In the afternoon we did a pumpkin science experiment which involved using a pumpkin, bicarbonate of soda, food colouring and vinegar. We predicted what might happen when we mix the ingredients together in the pumpkin and then watched what happened. Can you child explain to you what happened? We visited the chickens and collected the eggs. We made scramble egg for snack. It was very yummy.
On Wednesday morning we made our own pumpkin soup by practicing the skill of using a knife to cut up the vegetables. We then used a blender and ate our pumpkin soup for snack in the afternoon. A group had PE with Mr Treble and we used some equipment to practice jumping off and landing on two feet, balancing and climbing over and under.  In the afternoon we played skittles with the pumpkins which was great fun. We also found a hedgehog outside and we were interested in looking at him and finding out more about hedgehogs.
On Thursday we went to the woods on a big blue bus. We loved going on the bus. We had a great time exploring the woods and the changes which take place during the season of Autumn.  We talked about all the objects we could see and we even found the witches broom stick from Room on a broom. We made dens, pretend campfires, potions for the witch and lots of moving and balancing in different ways. We played hide and seek. The adult had to hide and the children found us. We also did some singing and had snack on the logs.
On Friday we had bonfire snack in the forest school area. We had sausages, oranges and apricots for snack. We then toasted marshmallows on the camp fire and had S'mores. They were very yummy. We also sang songs around the camp fire.

Throughout the week we have been busy constructing with mega blocks and Geo mag. Our finger frenzy this week has been using the hammers to bang golf tee's into the pumpkins. We have been mark making on the pumpkin outline with whiteboard pens. Some of us mades faces using circles and lines. Also we wrote some letters. On the number table this week we have had pumpkin seeds and cupcakes with numerals in. We counted the seeds to match the correct numeral cupcake case.  In the water tray we have been busy exploring pumpkins and the inside of pumpkins with magnifying glasses, tweezers, spoons and knives. In Our role play are we have been playing with the woodland and campfire scene along with the tent.

Here are some photos of the week....

This week we are going to be exploring fireworks and have lots of activities to support our learning including a science experiment to make edible sparklers, exploring mixing colours and different techniques to make firework pictures, Autumn and firework songs and lots more.
