Hello everyone....

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a fantastic weekend with your families and friends.

Last week we explored our country of Great Britain and the London the capital city. At group time we shared some stories about London including The queens handbag, The queens hat and Charlie and Lola visit London. Emma bought in a great story called Ron the royal guard. We also looked at maps of Great Britain and our home town of Dorchester. We also enjoyed watching Peppa pig goes to London and Go Jetters visit London Bridge.
On Monday we had great fun painting our own London bus for our role play area which we have loved playing in throughout the week and visiting diffrent places on the bus. We had tickets, bus times for our journeys on the bus. We looked at the Great Britain flag and painted our own flag. In the afternoon we looked at a map of Dorchester and found out where we all lived and how to get to each others houses. We labeled the map.
On Tuesday a group of children had PE with Mr Treble and used the climbing frame equipment with ladders. The children became really confident at climbing the equipment and challenging themselves to see how high they could climb. In the afternoon we celebrated the start of Fitness February and did the daily mile track at school. We were all did really well with running.
Afterwards the Queen(Julia) made an appearance at the Preschool door and had come to see us all and cross the London Bridge we had made outside using crates and planks of wood. We also made her some afternoon tea in the mud kitchen. We made our own crowns and tiara using paper plates and a variety of media including sequins, colouring pens etc.
On Wednesday and Thursday we have been busy junk modelling and making carriages for the queen to travel in. We had amazing ideas how to make carriages.
On Friday it was NSPCC Maths day and we made some Numicon biscuits which we decorated with smarties in the afternoon. We counted out the correct number of smarties to match our numicon piece. We also made shape jam or cheese sandwiches for snack. In the afternoon we ate our delicious English afternoon tea. We also sang a variety of number songs at group time and read some lovely number stories. Great dressing up everyone.

Throughout the week the children have really enjoyed playing the fishing game in the water tray. They have been using rods and nets to catch the magnetic fish. Some great sharing and turn taking with the rods. We have been busy exploring the different English coins in the sand and sorting them into groups. The finger frenzy table this week was threading beads onto spaghetti. This was tricky but some great pincer grips and resilient. We have been working with friends and creating marble runs. We have made crowns out of play dough and decorated them using gems and jewels. We are amazing at making train tracks and have really enjoyed playing trains with our friends. Also we have spent lots of time in our new book area enjoying books with friends. We love the new cushions, armchairs and rug. Thank you POWSA for supporting this.

We have learnt the picture names for the Read write inc cards M-Maisie next to the moutain,A-Apple,S-Snake, d-dinosaur, t-tower, I-insect, n-net, p-pirate, g-girl, o-orange, C-caterpillar, K-kangroo, u-umbrella, b-boot, F-flower, E-egg.

Our Jennie Jigsaw group time last week-

Ask Jigsaw Jenie to try and build a tower but it collapses. Jigsaw Jenie gives up and leaves the bricks saying things like, ‘I can’t do it, it’s too hard’.

Help Me Learn

Ask the children if this is what they would do. What should Jigsaw Jenie do? Explain to the children how we all find something tricky but we should never give up and keep trying until we can do it.

Questions: What would you do? How can you achieve your goal?

Let’s Think. Ask the children to think of things that they find tricky. Explain to them that this is going to become their goal, and they will practise

Here are some pictures of the week....
