π¦π¦ Shark in the Dark! π¦✨
Hello everyone,
We hope you have all had a wonderful weekend with family and friends. What beautiful Autumn weather we have been enjoying! π☀️
Last week, we continued our exciting Shark in the Park adventures and explored the different variations of the story. We particularly enjoyed Shark in the Dark! π¦π The children were fantastic at joining in with the repeated refrains and loved becoming involved in the story.
π¦ Monday
On Monday morning, we continued making our Christmas cards. π✂️ We also had lots of fun playing the Underwater Counting Shark Game, developing our counting skills as we rescued the treasure
In the afternoon, we headed over to the Trim Trail, where we enjoyed lots of climbing, balancing and swinging. The children showed fantastic resilience, keeping on trying even when something was tricky. We were very proud of their determination! πͺπ
π¦ Tuesday
On Tuesday morning, we had PE in the hall. We practised our physical skills using the stepping stones, balancing along the bench and climbing through hoops. We worked hard on our balance, coordination and control. π€Έ♀️π€Έ♂️
We also had great fun exploring and experimenting with torches in our dark room. We made shark shadows and discovered lots of other shadows too. We explored how we could move the torches to change the shadows and talked about what we could see. π¦ππ¦
π Wednesday
On Wednesday morning, a group of children went to the care home for a lovely visit. We enjoyed a sing-song, listened to a story and even had some cake! πΆππ° It was wonderful to share this special experience together.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed our Relax Kids session with Sian. We played games, did some stretching, enjoyed peer massage and finished with some lovely relaxation time. π§♀️π
We also continued exploring our Shark in the Dark theme. The children used their torches to search for sharks hiding around the room. They enjoyed talking about what they could see and describing what they were doing. π¦π¦
πͺ Thursday
On Thursday morning, we spent some time talking about ourselves. We discussed things we like, things we don't like and the things we are good at. It was lovely to hear the children sharing their ideas and celebrating their own interests and strengths. ❤️
In the afternoon, we worked together to make an exciting underwater maze using wooden blocks and planks. We placed blue fabric underneath to become the water and added lots of underwater creatures. ππ π
The children then had to carefully balance along the planks without falling into the water! They showed fantastic problem-solving, teamwork and resilience as they worked out how to get through the maze.
☀️ Friday
On Friday morning, we had an adventure over at school. We enjoyed exploring and playing together before making the most of the beautiful sunshine and spending time playing outside. ☀️
π§Έ Exploring and Learning Through Play
Throughout the week, the children have also enjoyed a wide range of activities and experiences across our provision.
π£️ Vocabulary Tray – We have enjoyed exploring our tray of real objects, talking about what we can see, feel and do with them and developing our vocabulary.
π¦ Shark in the Park Small World – The children have loved using the small world resources to recreate the story and develop their own imaginative ideas.
π Home Corner – We have been busy using our real-life experiences in our role-play home corner. The children have enjoyed acting out familiar experiences and developing their own stories.
𧡠Finger Frenzy – We have been developing our fine motor skills by threading teddies onto thread.
𧱠Construction – The children have been busy constructing and creating with Duplo, magnetic shapes and foam-shaped bricks, developing their problem-solving and creativity.
π’ Number Area – We have been exploring Unifix cubes, making towers and counting how high our towers are. We have been using mathematical vocabulary such as tall and short as we compared our towers. π
π’ Meet Respectful Raya!
This week we met Respectful Raya, one of our Building Learning Powers. π
Respectful Raya reminds us to think about ourselves, other people and the world around us. She helps us to listen to others, use kind words and actions, take care of our environment and understand that everyone is special and important.
Another fantastic week of learning through play, exploring, problem-solving and having fun together! We are so proud of all the children and the wonderful way they continue to learn and grow. ππ¦π Here are some photos of the week...

π‘ Home Learning π
Here are a few fun activities to enjoy together at home over the next fortnight. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and celebrate your child's efforts! π
π 1. Can you put your own shoes on?
Have a go at putting your shoes on independently. Can you work out which shoe goes on which foot? Practise taking them off and putting them back on again. We will keep practising at preschool too!
π€ 2. Can you recognise your name?
Can you find your name on a card? Have a go at spotting the first letter of your name. You could practise making your name using magnetic letters, writing it in the air or tracing it with your finger.
π΅ 3. Can you go on a shape hunt?
Look around your home or when you are out and about. Can you find objects that are a circle, square, triangle or rectangle? You might find a circular plate, a square tile, a triangular road sign or a rectangular book. How many different shapes can you find? πΊπ¦
π©π³ 4. Let's get cooking!
Can you help an adult to cook something that contains eggs? You could make scrambled eggs, an omelette, pancakes or a cake. Talk about the different ingredients you need and follow a simple recipe together.
As you cook, chat about where the ingredients come from. Where do eggs come from? Where does flour come from? What about milk? Encourage your child to help mix, pour and measure, with adult support.
π Learning tip: Have fun introducing new words such as ingredients, recipe, mix, pour, measure and farm. Talk about what you are doing as you cook together!
We would love to hear about your home learning adventures. Have fun exploring, practising and learning together! π
