🦈 Our Week in Preschool 🦋
Hello everyone,
We hope you have all had a wonderful weekend.
We have had another busy and exciting week in Preschool. Here is a little look at everything we have been learning and enjoying together.
📚 Monday
We started the week by sharing Shark in the Park on a Windy Day by Nick Sharratt during group time. The children loved joining in with the repeated refrains and using actions to explore the positional language linked to Timothy's telescope. 🔭
We also compared the front covers of the two Shark in the Park books and talked about what was the same and what was different. We also learnt about speech bubbles and how they show what a character might be saying.
In the morning, the children became little bakers and made shark biscuits to bring home. 🦈🍪 They practised mixing, rolling and cutting using a variety of cooking tools. We hope you enjoyed eating them!
In the afternoon, we met Respectful Raya the Butterfly, one of our Building Learning Powers. 🦋 We talked about what it means to be respectful and how we can show respect to our friends, adults and our environment.
🏃 Tuesday
On Tuesday morning, we enjoyed our PE session. We played Sleepy Pirates, where the children had to move when the pirate was asleep but freeze when the pirate woke up! 🏴☠️
We then worked together to collect the treasure before completing an exciting obstacle course, which included balancing, stepping stones and hoops. This helped us develop our balance, coordination, listening and gross motor skills.
In the afternoon, we became scientists and explored which objects roll and which objects don't roll. 🔬 The children made predictions, tested different objects and talked about what they noticed.
A group of children also used the rolling pins and shark cutters to make shark biscuits to bring home.
🎨 Wednesday
On Wednesday morning, we began making our Christmas cards for Cauliflower Cards. 🎄💌 The children have been enjoying getting creative and we can't wait to see their finished designs!
A group of children also enjoyed a lovely visit to the care home, where they shared singing, a story and cake with the residents. ❤️
In the afternoon, we enjoyed our Relax Kids session with Sian, giving the children an opportunity to relax, calm their bodies and enjoy some peaceful activities together. 🌈
🌬️ Thursday
On Thursday morning, we continued working on our Cauliflower Christmas cards. 🎄
In the afternoon, we carried out another exciting science experiment, exploring which objects would blow in the wind and which would not. We used a hairdryer to create our own wind and tested different objects. The children enjoyed making predictions and finding out why some objects moved while others didn't.
🎄 Friday
On Friday morning, we continued creating our Christmas cards for Cauliflower Cards. The children have worked so carefully on their designs and we are looking forward to sharing more information with you next week about how you can order them.
🌟 Learning Through Play
Throughout the week, the children have also enjoyed lots of exciting learning opportunities within our continuous provision:
🧠 Vocabulary Tray & Kim's Game – developing our language, attention and memory.
🌳 Small World Play – using our Playmobil park to create stories and adventures.
🏠 Home Corner – using our real-life experiences to develop imaginative role play.
🥄 Finger Frenzy – using spoons to carefully transfer marbles into bottles and developing our fine motor skills.
🧱 Construction – building with Duplo, wooden animal bricks, transparent shapes, coloured blocks and pebbles.
⚖️ Number Area – exploring weight and comparing objects using scales.
🦈 Playdough – creating our own sharks while strengthening our hands and fingers.
🦋 Building Learning Powers
This week we met Respectful Raya the Butterfly. We will continue to explore what it means to be respectful and encourage the children to use their Building Learning Powers throughout their play, learning and relationships with others.
What a wonderful week we have had! We are so proud of the children's curiosity, enthusiasm and willingness to explore, investigate and have a go. Here are some photos of our week.❤️
🦈 Looking Ahead to This Week
This week we will be sharing the story Shark in the Dark and continuing our shark-themed learning. 🦈
We will also be exploring torches, light and shadows, investigating what happens when we shine light on different objects and discovering how shadows are made. 🔦🌟
We have lots of exciting activities planned, with plenty of opportunities for the children to explore, investigate, predict and discover through play and hands-on experiences.
Please bring any WOW's for our WOW board you have and if you need some WOW slips, please pick some up from the notice board outside.
You can apply for a reception place from 1 September 2026.
The closing date for applications is 15 January 2027.
