Hello everyone....

🌟 Our Week All About Dinosaurs 🦕

Hello everyone,

We have had a very busy and exciting week in preschool as we explored our dinosaur theme. The children have loved sharing the story “Stomp, Chomp, Big Roars… Here Come the Dinosaurs!” and taking part in lots of fun, hands-on activities linked to it.

Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to this week…

🥄 Monday

On Monday, the children created their own dinosaurs using a variety of materials including sequins, pom-poms, feathers and more, using PVA glue. They practised spreading the glue carefully with a glue spreader and wiping it to stop it dripping — a great fine motor skill!

In the afternoon, we visited the forest school area and went on a dinosaur hunt. We found lots of dinosaurs and had a great time playing amongst the trees and enjoying the swings.

🥋 Tuesday

On Tuesday morning, a group of children took part in a Kickboxing session, which we all really enjoyed. We went on a monkey adventure to rescue the golden bananas! The children practised jumping with two feet together, hopscotch along the ladder, and jumping sideways.

In the afternoon, we made a volcano and carried out a science experiment using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and food colouring. It was great fun watching what happened and making predictions. We also enjoyed playing games together in the hall.

🎵 Wednesday

On Wednesday morning, a group of children visited the care home for a sing-song, story time and cake. We had a lovely time chatting with the residents — especially about dinosaurs!

Another group stayed at preschool and enjoyed making a dinosaur skeleton, practising their scissor skills as they cut and assembled the bones.

In the afternoon, we had our Relax Kids session and went on a calming fairy adventure.

🤸 Thursday

Thursday morning was spent at the YMCA Gym, where we had a wonderful time. After our warm-up routine, we played a listening game where the children moved in different ways and had to climb off the ground when the music stopped.

We then enjoyed using the swings, parallel bars and obstacle course, which involved balancing, swinging, crawling and rolling. To finish, we brought out the parachute with lots of balls to shake off, followed by a fun colour ball hunt.

In the afternoon, we visited soft play and also used the computers with Purple Mash to create our own dinosaurs. We are becoming very confident computer users!

🍪 Friday

On Friday morning, we made our own dinosaur footprints using pens, and also used stilts dipped in paint to create dinosaur tracks. The children practised balancing and moving carefully on the stilts.

In the afternoon, we went on an adventure to Tesco, where we chose a magazine for a friend in preschool and some flowers for Mrs Brooker. We then delivered the magazine and card to our friend’s house and took the flowers to Mrs Brooker’s house — a lovely way to practise kindness and community awareness.

🌈 Learning Through Play

Throughout the week, the children have enjoyed a wide range of learning-through-play activities, including:

  • Constructing with marble runs, plastic straws, Toolo, wooden blocks and transparent wooden shapes

    • Sorting coloured dinosaurs into coloured pots using number and colour dice

    • Playing number games and practising counting from a larger group, recognising numerals 1–6

    • Using playdough to create dinosaur worlds, trees, gems and skeletons

    • Exploring a small-world dinosaur scene with dinosaurs, wooden logs and blue fabric

    • Using coloured pegs and boards to develop fine motor skills

    • Excavating dinosaur eggs using small tools to scratch and reveal hidden dinosaurs

📚 Read Write Inc – Picture Cards

This week, we began learning Read Write Inc picture names during group time:
    m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p

We have also enjoyed lots of rhyming games and stories.
