Hello everyone......

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a great weekend. We have all really been enjoying the story of The Gingerbread Man.

Last week we enjoyed sharing the story of The Gingerbread Man and we were great at joining in with the repeated refrains. Throughout the week the children have been cooking gingerbread men in the kitchen to bring home to decorate and eat. We have loved seeing all the amazing decorated gingerbread men and home learning.

On Monday we had great fun exploring the ice outside and finding it all around the playground. We talked about how ice is made and how it melts. We also explored how to make the ice melt.

On Tuesday morning a group of children went to school and listened to the story of The Gruffalo read by some Thomas Hardye students. The children were amazing at using their listening ear. After the story the children created and drew their own monsters. To finish off the students created a game whereby the children had to move like a particular animal including animals from the story. Also on Tuesday morning a group of children went to PE and did some great balancing and climbing on the apparatus. The children are becoming really confident at this and are challenging themselves. We did some gingerbread man threading with a needle and wool. We drew a face on our gingerbread men.

On Wednesday afternoon we did a science experiment with gingerbread man. We explored if they sank or floated in different liquids like milk, water and lemonade.

On Thursday we explored making our own boat which would float to carry the gingerbread man across the river.

On Friday we had our trip to Shire Hall which was brilliant. The children went on the coach and they created their own gingerbread man using colours and tissue paper. The children then when on a tour around Shire Hall to look for the different characters in the story using a torch. The children enjoyed exploring and the tour around. They explored the court room trying on the different hats. The children made gingerbread men out of play dough. In the afternoon the children had a visit from the NSPC Pantosarus to talk about PANTS. We talked about the PANTS message and designed our own pants using different media.

Throughout the week we have enjoyed using the small world to act out the story of the gingerbread man. We have been mark making in the flour and ginger. We have constructed with the transparent shapes and making making gingerbread men out of play dough. We decorated them with gems and buttons. We have enjoyed playing with the diggers and wooden blocks. We have been exploring the gingerbread men in the number area and giving them the correct number of buttons.

We have learnt the picture names for the Read write inc cards M-Maisie next to the moutain,A-Apple,S-Snake, d-dinosaur, t-tower, I-insect, n-net.
