Stick Man and Stanley's Stick

Hello everyone,

Last week we had a great time exploring sticks and Stickman. We listened to the story of Stickman and we joined in with story endings and repeated refrains. Towards the end of the week we could retell the story ourselves to Julia and Helen using the pictures. Throughout the week we have been going out around the school grounds to do a stick hunt. We found long, short, thin, thick sticks etc. We ticked off on our list the different types of sticks we found. On Monday and Tuesday afternoon we went to the forest school area and did mud painting with sticks. We had great fun mixing mud with water to make a pint and then using sticks to paint pictures. We have really enjoyed playing outside this week with such lovely weather. On Wednesday morning we had PE with Mr Treble. We played a game involving moving between hoops without moving out of the hoop. Also we played the game of domes and saucers. The children did fantastic at these games.
On Wednesday afternoon we made stick rafts. The children used wool and sticks to make a raft and then explored floating their raft in the water. Also we played on the play trail and played some ball games to practice our throwing, catching and rolling skills. On Thursday morning we had our first group swim. During swimming we practice kicking our legs, blowing bubbles, entering the pool safely and playing with a variety of water toys. On Friday we started making our own stickman puppets. We used different tools to make them. We used a saw to cut our wood. A hammer to bang the nails in for stickman legs and arms and a vegetable peeler to peel the wood off so we could decorate our stickman with felt tips. We talked about how to use tools safely throughout the activity.

This week we will be continuing with the story of Stickman and also introducing the story of Stanley stick. We will continue to make our stickman puppets and we have lots of other activities planned based on the two  stories.

Jennie Jigsaw:- We will be talking about different emotions this week e.g. What makes us happy

Letters and Sounds
We will be using the signs from Read write inc which are "my turn, your turn" "talk to your partner". Looking at stories with rhyming endings.

Home Learning
We have really enjoyed seeing some fantastic pictures using sticks and showing them at group time.
Can you make a picture using sticks?  If you have done this home learning already maybe  you would like to collect different sized sticks. Can you count how many you collected and have a go at putting them in length order using shortest and longest language? Please take a photo and bring in to pre-school or email to preschoolparents@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk and I can print them out.

Notices

We are supposed to be going to the park tomorrow (23rd September) but sadly today it has been discovered that there is a lot of smashed glass all over the park. The council have been informed. Due to this we will have to cancel our trip to the park but we will reschedule it soon. Children are very welcome to bring their teddies tomorrow and we will have some fun things planned with our teddies tomorrow at school.

It was lovely to see some of you at Stay and Play on Thursday. This week Stay and Play will be on Friday 27th September  from 8.30-9.00am. Everyone is very welcome including younger and older siblings. Hope to see lots of you there.

On Thursday 26th September we have our story time at 3.10pm. Please come and join us. Everyone is very welcome including younger and older siblings. Hope to see lots of you there.

It was lovey to see you at our coffee/ information session on Wednesday. If you were unable to attend there is powerpoint on the school website on the pre-school page. If you have any questions please do come and see me.

On Thursday morning our second group will be swimming.  Children who are swimming will need a towel, swim costume, googles. We will be using a 2 week rota and you will get a letter to let you know which Thursdays your child will swimming. If your child does not attend on a Thursday they will have an opportunity to swim another time during the year. We change swimming mornings each term.

On Thursday we have got our pasta and sauce lunch. So no packed lunches or hot lunches needed on this day. The sauce the children have made using the tomatoes they picked, cut and made into pasta sauce. We will be having apple crumble for pudding which the children will be making this week using apples from the orchard.

On Friday 27th POWSA are holding a film night in the main school hall. The film showing is Chicken run. The event starts with story time at 5.30pm and the film starts at 5.45pm. Tickets can be purchased at the main school office.

If your child attends pre-school on a Wednesday morning please could they bring in a  named pair of plimsols for PE. From previous experience plimsols with a velcro strap are easier for the children to put on.

Thank you for all the lovely WOW'S, we love sharing these during group time. Please bring any WOW's for our WOW board you have and if you need some WOW slips, please come and ask one of the staff.

Our next Saturday Stay and Play is on Saturday 28th September from 10.00-11.30am. Younger and old siblings very welcome to join us.
