The gingerbread man

Hello everyone,

We have had an amazing first week back. It has been lovely to hear all about our families Christmas. In small groups we have shared our news about our Christmas holiday. The children talked about their families, Christmas presents and food they had enjoyed. From doing this the children have been sharing their news and drawing a picture of their Christmas with their Key worker. These will be up on display this week. We have been reading The gingerbread man story. The children have really enjoyed this and have been joining in with the repeated refrains. We have read different version of the gingerbread man and talked about the similarities and differences in the stories. The children have been making bridges for the gingerbread man to cross with the wood block centre, acting out the story of the gingerbread man with the puppet theatre and making gingerbread man out of play dough.
On Wednesday one of the children bought in a worm farm for us to look at. The children were really interested learning about worms and what they do. The drew pictures of the worm farm. As the children were really interested we ordered our own worm world for preschool which came on Thursday. On Thursday afternoon we made our worm world by digging up soil and worms and then layering the soil and sand layers and placing worms in the tank. These are on the nature shelf, please do have a look.

This week we will continue the story of The Gingerbread man as the children were interested and enjoying this story. We will be talking about the story setting, events and principal characters and joining in with repeated refrains. We will be cooking our own gingerbread man to bring home which you can decorate at home and bring in a picture, acting out the story of the gingerbread man and moving in different ways. We will be doing a science experiment with a gingerbread man, playing a number game on the whiteboard and lot's more.

Jennie Jigsaw:-

Last week with Jennie Jigsaw we talked about challenges and some of us set ourselves a challenge.
We will be continuing to set ourselves some challenges at pre-school. Have you done a challenge at home you would like to share with us?

Letters and Sounds:-

We will be continuing to use repetitive story phases and suggesting a person who has a name beginning with a given letter. We have started to be able to give people names beginning with a certain letter. It lovely to hear lots of children rhyming words now.

Home learning:-

When you bring home your Gingerbread man this week, can you decorate it and bring in a picture of your gingerbread man.
If you have a story of the Gingerbread man you are very welcome to bring it in and we will share it with the group as there are lots of variations of the story. Can you retell the story of the gingerbread man to your families?
