Hello everyone....

Hello everyone,

Hope you have had a great weekend with family and friends. It has been lovely to welcome the children back after the weekend, full of enthusiasm and ready to learn.

This week, our focus story has been The Gingerbread Man, and the children have absolutely loved it. They have become very confident at joining in with the repeated refrains and have enjoyed retelling the story in lots of different ways throughout the week.

We started the week by making Gingerbread Man puppets, which the children used to retell the story in their own words. Later that day, the children took part in baking cakes, carefully measuring, mixing and talking about the ingredients. These cakes were then taken to the care home later in the week, giving the children a lovely opportunity to share their hard work with others.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a kickboxing session and went on a monkey adventure, where the children practised their balance, stance and kicking skills using the pads. In the afternoon, small groups visited soft play, while others explored construction materials to build bridges for the Gingerbread Man to cross the river, encouraging teamwork, problem-solving and creativity.

Wednesday was a very special day. A group of children visited the care home to sing songs and enjoy the delicious cakes they had made, spreading lots of smiles and joy. Back at preschool, the children enjoyed junk modelling, creating boats and Gingerbread Men using a range of joining materials and techniques. In the afternoon, we welcomed Sian from Relax Kids, who led a calming relaxation session. The children went on a woodland adventure and really enjoyed taking time to relax and unwind together.

On Thursday morning, we visited the YMCA gym, where the children had great fun completing an obstacle course, using the trampoline, practising balance on the high beam and exploring tappy sticks. This session supports the children’s physical development and confidence, and we are already looking forward to next week’s visit. In the afternoon, the children used watercolours to paint their own Gingerbread Men and also enjoyed another visit to soft play.

We finished the week on a high with the Now Press Play headsets on Friday morning, acting out The Gingerbread Man. The children were fully immersed in the story, using their imagination, listening skills and movement to bring it to life.

Throughout the week, the children have enjoyed a wide range of continuous provision activities. They have been busy constructing with Mobilo, mini octagons and flower construction, developing their fine motor skills and creativity. In the number area, they matched the correct number of buttons to the numeral on the Gingerbread Man, supporting early maths skills. We explored mark making in ginger flour using fingers, and used playdough to cut out Gingerbread Men, decorating them with gems, buttons and pom poms.

In the small world area, the children have loved acting out the story using props and characters, confidently repeating the refrains. At our finger frenzy table, they practised threading Gingerbread Man outlines, developing their back-to-front and in-and-out skills. The children have also been thoroughly enjoying our hospital role-play area, using their imagination and language through play.

It has been a busy, creative and enjoyable week full of learning through play, and we are so proud of the children’s enthusiasm and engagement.

Here are some pictures from the week....

For next week, we will continue to explore the story of The Gingerbread Man, with some great activities planned.

Hello everyone......

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a lovely weekend. We had a great first week back at pre-school and really enjoyed settling back into our routines. During group times, the children loved sharing their Christmas news and adventures with their friends. Throughout the week, the children have been mark making pictures about their Christmas holidays and sharing their news, which was scribed by an adult.

We have enjoyed a wide range of activities across the setting. In the construction areas, the children explored Mobilo, soft foam shapes, and wooden flower construction. In the number area, we focused on counting plastic people from a larger group, developing one-to-one correspondence, recognising numerals, and sorting them into groups. The children also enjoyed mark making on the whiteboards using pens and explored printing with numeral stamps and number dot stamps.

In the space small world area, the children were very busy creating their own imaginative stories about space. During water play, they explored a variety of tools such as funnels, different sized containers, scoops, whisks, and jugs. The children have also enjoyed our new role play area, which is a hospital, as well as playing with the HappyLand figures. On the Finger Frenzy table, the children have been developing their fine motor skills by exploring zips, buttons, and nuts and bolts.

Throughout the week, we have begun learning the Read Write Inc picture names during group time. The children have been introduced to Maisie next to the mountain, apple, and snake. We have also been enjoying lots of rhyming games and stories together.

On Tuesday morning, we had kickboxing, where we went on a monkey adventure to collect bananas. On Wednesday, a group of children visited the care home to sing songs, listen to a story, and enjoy some cake. The children are becoming increasingly confident when talking to the residents, which is lovely to see. In the afternoon, we had Relax Kids with Sian and went on a camping adventure.

On Thursday morning, we visited the YMCA Gym, where the children had an amazing time on the trampoline, rings, and obstacle course, as well as enjoying some great games. On Friday, we set up the climbing equipment in the pre-school hall and also visited soft play.

Some pictures from this week are below — we hope you enjoy seeing what the children have been up to!

For the next two weeks, we will be exploring the story of The Gingerbread Man. We have lots of exciting activities planned, including cooking, science experiments, drama, rhyming games, and much more. We are really looking forward to bringing this well-loved story to life with the children.
