Harvest and Farming

Hello everyone,

Last week we enjoyed variety of farming and harvest stories including The scarecrow's wedding, The enormous turnip, Harvest poem. and Tractor Ted in Autumn. We have enjoyed singing Dingle Dangle Scarecrow, Old Macdonald had a farm and Oh the farmer lost his cow. On Monday morning we went over to see the tractor in the main school and talk about what it is used for, the different parts on a tractor and the shapes we could see. On Tuesday we did some Potato shape printing and some of us created repeating patterns with our printing. These will be up on display in the classroom. On Wednesday and Thursday on the drawing table we had a variety of shapes to create a tractor or scarecrow. We made our own tractors and scarecrows using shapes. These are on display. On Wednesday morning we had Mr Treble for PE. The children are brilliant at putting their plimsols on independently. In Mr Treble lesson we played cat and mouse which involved negioating space and changing direction. In the afternoon the children enjoyed playing with the hoops outside and practicing jumping into a hoop. We also practice our throwing using beanbags to throw into the hoops. We then had a go at catching a beanbag. On Thursday a group went swimming and it is lovely to see their confidence grow.  On Thursday afternoon we used soft play. On Friday afternoon a group of children made houmous and flat breads for snack. Throughout the week we have been making our harvest display surprise using wood and different tools. We have started painting them.

This week we will be visiting the orchard to harvest some pears and apples. We will then be using the pears and apples to make something in the kitchen. We will be using different cooking utensils and talking about how to use them safely. The children will be able to see and understand the process of farm to fork. We will be finishing off our wood creations including painting and some more hammering and drilling.  We will be reading the story of Supertato. We will be also be planting some cress seeds in a potato and talking about the process of growing and harvesting. We will be sending these home. Can you harvest the cress using the scissors and use to make something? Take a picture and bring it in. On Monday we we have the open dairy visiting us at school. We will also begin talking about the changes in Autumn and sharing some stories and poems. We will be playing a dice game outside involving collecting objects.

Letters and Sounds
We will be using the signs from Read write inc which are "my turn, your turn" "talk to your partner". Looking at stories with rhyming endings.

Home Learning
