Hello Everyone,

Last week we have really been enjoying the story of Jack and the beanstalk. We have read different versions of the story and the children have been amazing at telling us the similarties and differences. We have also enjoyed the story of Jack and the baked beanstalk and Jack and the meanstalk. On Monday afternoon we played the beans game outside and also how many beanbag we could throw into the buckets. We also enjoyed going to see the horses on the school field.
On Tuesday afternoon we had great fun making a castle outside around the tree house. Following on from this on Wednesday we painted our castle and made a beanstalk and flag. Throughout the week we have been planting our own magic beans and making a castle for it to grow up to. We talked about what a bean needs to be able to grow. Please do bring in pictures of your growing beanstalk.
On Thursday afternoon we had great fun acting out the story of Jack and the beanstalk in the outside area using trees, slides and the wooden house. We have enjoyed using the puppet theatre to retell the story using the puppets with our friends. On Tuesday afternoon the children enjoyed listening to and learning about the different musical instruments used by the Durnorvaria Silver Band. On Wednesday morning we went to watch the performance of 'I am Turtle'. It was performed by a theatre company and the story was based around about the dangers of plastics in the sea to the animals. The children really enjoyed the production and understood the key message from the show. On Friday the children enjoyed their swimming session.

This week we are going to continue to enjoy the story of Jack and the beanstalk. We will be making our own castles using junk modelling.  We will be planting different types of beans and watching them grow.  We may have a surprise letter from the giant and lots more fun activities. We will also be looking through our learning journeys and talking about what we have enjoyed doing this term, what we have learned to do and what we would like to do next. We will also continue to look after our vegetable plants in the nature garden and meet our new chickens that arrived at the weekend.

  1. Goodness me. So many different ways to explore a very well known story. Very exciting, interesting, enjoyable & inspirational. I especially loved the idea of building a castle to support your own climbing beans. Very topical as one of your Grandads has planted his climbing beans this week but with just sticks for the hoped for beans to climb. His beans & yours will have gladly drunk today’s heavy rain after these last few sunny days to help the beans grow strongly. Lucky boys & girls meeting the silver band players from Dunrovia & watching the ‘I am a Turtle’ production. I wonder how many new rhyming words you all thought of? Plenty of WOW moments,
The new chicks must be so cute & will have fun playing with their slightly older friends.
