Carnival !!

26th June.
Dear Parents,
We have two lovely carnival poems to enjoy this week ahead of us joining the school the following week in a whole school topic about the Olympics and Brazil.
So this week the children have the opportunity to explore carnival style music, joining in using bells, drums, shakers  and whistles. We will be making masks, enjoy dressing up, and using lots of bright colours for arts and crafts.
We also plan to have lots of different sports and games to enjoy , weather permitting!

JIGSAW. The children have been enjoying visiting their new classes and teachers, and we will continue to read lots of stories and poems about going into school.

Don't forget Mr Gibson's talk about reading and writing on Tuesday in the hall. Everyone is welcome. There will be lots of interesting and useful  information to help with the next step to reading and writing.

continue from last week!

19th June
Dear Parents,
just a short blog this evening to tell you the children will be continuing with the activities we started last week, within IT and mathematics.
Also this coming week the school is taking part in the DASP (Dorset area schools partnership)  literacy week with the theme of 'desert island discs'.  With our children we are going to reflect on which books we have enjoyed  this past year and and make a list of our favourite places to listen to a story.
Weather permitting we will be going to watch sports days at school.

lots to do!

12th June.
Dear Parents,
We have lots of small themes running through the next 2 or 3 weeks.
This next week many of  the children will be creating something for Fathers day.
We will also be celebrating another birthday, that of Winnie the Pooh who is also 90!
The children will also continue to match number to numerals, and look at big numbers.
The children's other task this week will be to complete IT activities, this is a 'next steps' for many children following our IT activities when we enjoyed our beach theme.
The children will enjoy these through using the 'bee bot' and the computers at school and pre school.
Will any of the children be interested in the football competition? if so we have some activities and tasks ready.
(if you are not familiar with 'bee bot' do ask)

DON'T FORGET . The summer fayre is on Friday 24th June after school, there will be ice creams, tea and coffee, games and a barbeque, a lovely way to start the weekend.

The children will have opportunities to build castles and play with small world knights and princesses.
One morning all pre school will be replicating a street party at snack time, a decision on which morning will be made according to the weather forecast.
The children in on Friday will be enjoying a morning with reception class, and in the afternoon will be taking part in a whole school picnic to celebrate the Queen's birthday.

more about the beach

22 May

Dear Parents,
Those children who went to the beach had a super time, and we started some crafts and activities with that theme last week. One of the popular activities was to think about what we saw, smelt, felt and heard when the children were at the beach. On the children's return they worked in small groups to think about the words they used and put them into a computer picture.
The children have enjoyed making pictures and using shells and stones to collage.
We will be continuing these activities this coming week.

For those of you who made cakes for the summer fair, it was unfortunately cancelled. However the cakes were sold on Friday to raise some money, and there is a new date for the fair after half term.

For those of you who entered the 'bake off' with your child, along with Reception we raised just over £100, so many thanks from us and Janet Emerton who collected the money on behalf of SENSE.

we are off to the beach !!

15th May

Dear Parents,
We had a good week last week, with lots of the children talking about energy, exercise and keeping our bodies healthy. we had a lovely time making lots of different sandwiches, talking about healthy fillings both savoury and sweet. The children have been making a graph to show the most popular choices. Giving them lots of opportunities to count and estimate.
Another counting activity which was very popular was the scootathon, most of the children took part on scooters and bikes, a few children even chose to run and run and run!!, and we have recorded the laps.
The children have also been learning about sun safety, making a picture to show what you need to be sun safe.
This week we will be going to the beach, we have some activities planned for when we are there. including collecting shells, pebbles, driftwood etc. digging, and making sandcastles, and much more. There will be lots of photographs to see. So we will be planning our next two weeks activities based on the trip on Tuesday.

IF YOUR CHILD IS COMING ON THE TRIP AND YOU HAVE NOT SIGNED A PERMISSION SLIP PLEASE DO SO TOMORROW. WE CANNOT TAKE YOUR CHILD WITHOUT ONE.

Health and safety week

9th May

This week we join the school for a Health and Safety week.
We will be thinking about sun safety, talking about the need for hats and sun cream.
On Tuesday we have the opportunity to visit the life education van, where we will talk about how important sleep and exercise is to our body, also learning about a healthy breakfast.
We are also going to have a healthy sandwich week, using vegetables, fruit and cheeses to make different sandwiches.
We will be holding our annual scootathon, which will help the children  talk about exercise, crash helmets and the need to be safe and water to keep our bodies working.
We also hope to spend some time on the school field, running and playing games, then thinking about what we need and how we feel when our bodies do lots of exercise.
SOUNDS AND LETTERS. will be lots of songs about our bodies and more alliteration and rhyming.

Last week we planned the week based on the children's interests and learning, for example, some of the children had a great time learning and exploring fossils, others loved drawing pictures of blossom from my tree, and a small group enjoyed the story of Alfie and Annie Rose finding a worm in their apple, and how you can make shapes and even letters when we peel apples with a knife !
Also we have had all three of the 'Shark in the Park' stories and the children have been asking for the 3 stories at every story time!
So along side our theme we will be continuing this way of planning as a thread through our learning throughout the rest of the year.
