Hello everyone.....

🌞 Preschool Weekly Blog 🌞

We hope you have all had a lovely weekend with family and friends enjoying the beautiful sunshine!

Last week, we had a fantastic time exploring the themes of the seaside and under the sea. We shared the stories Somebody Swallowed Stanley, Commotion in the Ocean, and The Snail and the Whale, which inspired many of our activities throughout the week.

Monday 📮🪼

We wrapped up warm and headed out to the post box to post our invitations for our upcoming Grandparents' Snack. Although we got a little soggy from the rain, the children enjoyed the adventure and were excited to post their invitations themselves.

Back at preschool, we made colourful jellyfish using yoghurt pots and plastic bags, inspired by the story Somebody Swallowed Stanley.

Tuesday 👮🚓

We were very excited to welcome Dorset Police to preschool. The children learned all about the role of a police officer, how they help to keep us safe, and the importance of always travelling in a car seat and wearing a seatbelt.

The children had the opportunity to:

  • Sit inside a police car
  • Press the sirens
  • Try on different police hats
  • Ask questions about police work

Everyone received a police sticker and a police hat to take home. Afterwards, the children drew pictures and talked about their favourite parts of the visit.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed beach ball games in the hall and created seaside-themed pictures using Purple Mash.

Wednesday ⭐🐠

After reading Commotion in the Ocean, the children created their own starfish using bubble wrap printing. They enjoyed exploring this fun printing technique and observing the different patterns it created.

During our Relax Kids session, we went on an imaginative adventure to the seaside, using our senses and imagination to explore the beach.

Thursday 🤸‍♀️🏫

We started the day with our weekly gym session. To warm up, the children moved in different ways to music and quickly jumped into hoops when the music stopped.

The children then enjoyed a range of activities, including:

  • Trampolining
  • An obstacle course
  • Walking along a high balancing beam
  • Climbing the wall frame
  • Swinging on bars
  • Practising forward rolls
  • Learning how to jump and land safely on two feet

We finished the session with a lively game of the Hokey Cokey.

In the afternoon, some of our children enjoyed a Reception transition session and had a wonderful time exploring their new environment. The remaining children enjoyed outdoor play and activities at preschool.

Friday 🧸🐌

Friday was Teddy Bear Day, and the children loved sharing snack time and stories with their favourite cuddly toys.

We read The Snail and the Whale before making our own snails from salt dough. The children practised their rolling skills to create the snail bodies and shells.

In the afternoon, we walked to the post box to post the remaining invitations. When we returned to preschool, the children enjoyed making and eating delicious ice cream sundaes, which was a wonderful way to finish our seaside-themed week.

🌈 Learning Through Play

Throughout the week, the children explored a wide range of play-based learning opportunities, including:

  • Constructing with marble runs, robots, Toolo and flower construction sets
  • Strengthening fine motor skills in our Finger Frenzy area using paper and hole punchers
  • Small world play with our seaside scene
  • Water play with underwater creatures, shells and rocks
  • Investigating initial sounds
  • Sensory play with shaving foam, ice cream cones, scoops and sprinkles

📚 Read Write Inc.

We have continued learning our phonics sounds and have focused on:

m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o

The children have enjoyed practising these sounds and becoming more confident in recognising and saying them.

We have also spent time with Fred Frog, who can only say sounds rather than whole words. The children loved playing Fred Talk, listening carefully to sounds and blending them together to make words.

Alongside our phonics sessions, we have continued to enjoy lots of rhyming games, songs and stories throughout the week.

📸 Some Pictures from Our Week

We hope you enjoy looking through the photos and seeing some of the wonderful experiences, learning opportunities and achievements the children have enjoyed this week.
