Hello everyone.....

🌞 Our Week: Healthy Me 🌞

Hello everyone,

We hope you’ve all had a lovely bank holiday weekend with your families and have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine.

We’ve had a very busy and exciting week at preschool, learning all about how to keep safe in the sun, staying safe at the seaside, and designing our favourite healthy plates of food. We’ve also really enjoyed sharing the story Real Superheroes, which helped us think about real-life people who help to keep us safe and healthy.

Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to…

Monday

On Monday, we were delighted to welcome our residents from Montrose Care Home, who joined us for a snack and some play. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to chat, share, and build connections.

We also designed our favourite plates of food using watercolour paints, talking about foods we enjoy and what makes a balanced meal.

In the afternoon, we watched a video about George the Sun Safety Superhero and discussed how to stay safe in the sun. We carried out a fun science experiment using black paper and sun cream. The children put sun cream on their hands, made handprints, and then left the paper in the sun. We observed how the sun cream protected the paper — a great hands-on way to understand sun safety!

Tuesday

On Tuesday morning, a group of children attended kickboxing, where they practised skills such as press-ups, sit-ups, and worked on their stance and guard positions. They also enjoyed playing some fun, energetic games.

Back at preschool, we created sun safety posters to display in our garden, helping to remind everyone how to stay safe while enjoying the sunshine.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, one group of children visited the care home, where they enjoyed singing songs, sharing a story, and having some cake together — a very special experience for everyone involved.

Another group attended a sea safety talk at school delivered by the RNLI, where they learned important messages about staying safe near the water.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed our Relax Kids session, taking part in calming activities and going on a peaceful imaginative journey together.

Thursday 🏃‍♂️

Thursday brought our weekly visit to the YMCA gym — always a highlight!

We started with a warm-up game, moving in different ways and finding coloured hoops when the music stopped. The children then rotated around a range of activities, including:

  • An obstacle course with rope swings, climbing, balancing, and roly-polys
  • Bouncing on the trampoline and practising sit-down jumps
  • Balancing along beams on tiptoes

We finished with scarf games and a fun round of the Hokey Cokey.

In the afternoon, the children enjoyed playing outside in the preschool garden, and we also visited Reception to listen to a story with Miss Gooden.

Friday 🎈

On Friday, we had a lovely day enjoying the sunshine and playing together in the preschool garden.

🌈 Learning Through Play

Throughout the week, the children explored a wide range of play-based activities, including:

  • Constructing with sticklebricks, waffle bricks, Duplo, and foam shapes
  • Creating people using playdough, beads, and tools
  • Mark making on magnetic boards and practising threading (Finger Frenzy)
  • Exploring small world play with bugs and insects
  • Investigating sound pots

📚 Read Write Inc.

We have begun learning our phonics sounds and focused on:
m, a, s, d, t, i

Here are the videos so you can practice at home-

The children were introduced to Fred Frog, who can only say sounds rather than whole words. They loved playing “Fred Talk,” listening carefully to sounds and blending them together to make words.

We have also been enjoying lots of rhyming games and stories throughout the week.

📸 Some Pictures from Our Week

We hope you enjoy looking through the photos and seeing some of the wonderful experiences the children have been part of this week.

🌼 Looking Ahead to the Next Fortnight

Over the next two weeks, we will be sharing the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and have lots of exciting activities planned! The children will be busy planting beans, creating their own castles, making beanstalks, tasting different types of beans, and exploring many more fun, hands-on experiences linked to the story.

Alongside this, the children will continue to enjoy their regular activities such as gym, Relax Kids, kickboxing, outdoor play, and lots of fun learning experiences with their friends.

🏠 Home Learning – Healthy Me

🏠 Home Learning

Here are a few simple activities you can enjoy at home to support your child’s learning:

🗣️ Communication and Language
Jack and the Beanstalk Story Talk
Read or retell Jack and the Beanstalk together. Encourage your child to talk about what happens in the story.

  • Can they remember what Jack traded for the beans?
  • What happened when the beanstalk grew?
  • Who lives in the castle?
You could also act out the story together using toys or by pretending!

💪 Physical Development
Grow a Beanstalk Challenge
Encourage your child to practise their physical skills by pretending to climb a beanstalk!

  • Can they stretch up tall like a giant beanstalk?
  • Can they climb safely at the park or on climbing equipment?
  • Practise fine motor skills by planting seeds or helping with watering plants at home.

📚 Phonics Fun

We have been learning the sounds:
m, a, s, d,t,i

Can your child:

  • Spot objects at home beginning with these sounds?
  • Practise saying the sounds clearly?
  • Play “Fred Talk” by sounding out simple words such as:
    • m-a-t
    • s-a-d
    • d-a-d
