Hello everyone......

We hope you have all had a lovely weekend with family and friends.

Last week we explored our country, England, and learned all about the Union Jack flag, maps, English currency, our capital city London, and our local town of Dorchester. We also enjoyed sharing the story Charlie and Lola: We Completely Must Go to London.

Monday

We began the week by painting our own Union Jack flags and looking at a local map of Dorchester to find where we live and where our friends live. The children really enjoyed exploring the map and talking about their homes.

In the afternoon, we looked at photographs of famous English landmarks and used construction resources to build our own versions. Due to the wet weather, we also enjoyed a session at soft play and spent time playing board games in small groups.

Tuesday

A group of children attended kickboxing and had a fantastic session developing their confidence and physical skills.

We continued exploring our local map, finding where we and our friends live. During the afternoon, we looked at different types of homes and then used construction resources to create models of our own houses.

Wednesday

On Wednesday morning, a group of children visited the care home for a lovely sing-song, story time and cakes. Due to the wet weather, we travelled in Julia's van.

Another group enjoyed making their own sandwiches for snack and trying tea to drink. The children thoroughly enjoyed preparing and tasting their snack.

In the afternoon, we had our Relax Kids session and went on an imaginative adventure to the seaside. We enjoyed a calm and relaxing session using bubbles and feathers.

Thursday

We had our weekly gym session in the morning. To warm up, we played a game where we moved in different ways to music and had to climb off the ground when the music stopped.

The children then enjoyed three activities:

  • Trampolining
  • An obstacle course
  • Walking along a tall balancing beam and practising jumping and landing safely on two feet

We finished the session with rope games and the Hokey Cokey.

In the afternoon, we began creating postcards to send to our grandparents.

Friday

We continued working on our postcards during the morning and were very proud of our finished creations.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed a walk to the post box to post our postcards and send them on their way!

🌈 Learning Through Play

Throughout the week, the children explored a wide range of play-based activities, including:

  • Constructing with wooden gem blocks, foam blocks, wooden shape blocks and picture cards
  • Building Unifix towers and balancing marbles in the Finger Frenzy area
  • Small world play with our London city scene
  • Water play using cups, teapots and tea sets
  • Investigating rhyming pairs and playing rhyming games

πŸ“š Read Write Inc.

We have continued learning our phonics sounds and have focused on:

m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o

Here are some of the sounds you can practise at home:

m Sound

The children have also been spending time with Fred Frog, who can only say sounds rather than whole words. They loved playing "Fred Talk", listening carefully to sounds and blending them together to make words.

We have also continued to enjoy lots of rhyming games and stories throughout the week.

πŸ“Έ Some Pictures from Our Week

We hope you enjoy looking through the photos and seeing some of the wonderful experiences and learning opportunities the children have taken part in this week.
