Hello everyone,
We hope you have all had a lovely weekend.
We have continued to enjoy our seaside theme this week. Next week we will be continuing our theme of the seaside.
We have had a fantastic week in pre-school.
Here is each groups news of our learning throughout the week.
Group B:
On Monday we really enjoyed playing and exploring outside. We had the challenge of crossing the shark infested water using hoops and then only being able to use 3 hoops. The children came up with some amazing ideas on how to get across the water. We also enjoyed making pirate hats and decorating them. We also had a shell hunt in the garden and we did some great counting to 15. We also enjoyed looking at fossils and learning all about them at group time.
On Tuesday we enjoyed making some starfish using bubble wrap and paint. It was a great technique to use. The children thought about which colours they wanted to use and patterns to make. At group time we discovered and learnt all about different types of seaweed. We then created a mermaid with the seaweed along with lots of other natural materials. The children created a library outside and enjoyed role playing a trip to the library. They made library cards and their own books.
On Wednesday we made strawberry ice cream and we cut all the strawberries up and mashed them. We also enjoyed playing lots of games outside like what's the time mr wolf, duck duck goose and making pirate soup. The children really enjoyed making up their own stories to act out. We also created rock pools using stones, shells and sea creatures. We enjoyed exploring what happened when you put water in them. We also created our own treasure maps using tea to stain the paper. We had a delicious ice lolly for snack in the afternoon.
On Thursday we enjoyed playing outside making mermaid potions. We also made some delicious strawberry ice cream for our snack. We also made some salt dough and created some mermaids and turtles. Next week we will be painting these. We also enjoyed playing bus journeys and we made our own bus tickets.
On Friday we had a wonderful day outside playing and exploring. We went to the play trail and enjoyed role playing dinosaurs. We also had a water fight with the other group from across the fence. We made some bubble mixture and made some bubble wands.
Throughout the week we have really enjoyed playing in the fishing boats catching numbered and lettered fish with the magnetic rods, playing with the small world pirate ship, listening to seaside stories, singing, FRED talk, board games and lots more.
Group C:
This week on Monday we used different shapes to make seagulls, threaded stones with holes, made a fish mobile,.
Tuesday we made our own ice cream and a price list for our ice cream shop. Visited the roundhouse with glow sticks using them in the dark and light, we also discovered fairy dust!
Wednesday we went pond dipping finding newts, bugs and beetles, played with ice cubes and frozen shells.
Thursday we made pasta bracelets and bird feeders with pipe cleaners. Practiced our dance for Dance Day and shared a Puff the Magic Dragon story Ruby brought in, the group loved listening to the song and singing along.
Also lots of mud kitchen, water play, painting, mark making, sensory play, rhyming and FRED talk.

Group D:
On Monday we explored the rock pool in the tuff tray and discussed what each of the sea creatures were and how they moved. The children had so much knowledge of different sea creatures and they enjoyed sharing this with their friends, from how a crab pinches to why jellyfish sting and how an octopus releases ink. We also made some jellyfish.
On Tuesday we read an information book about different fish. The children enjoyed comparing the different sizes and patterns of fish. We then started making our own bottle fish, decorating them in a way that made them different to others. We also had fun on the play trail, climbing up the ropes and sliding down the side. We sang some seaside songs in the boat and pretended to be lifeguards.
On Wednesday we made our own strawberry ice cream, the children chopped up the strawberries and mixed the ingredients together before popping the ice cream in the freezer. We also went to the field, we played football with the beach ball (the children love the beach ball) We also played duck duck goose and what’s the time Mr Wolf. We finished the hot day with a special ice lolly snack from Julia, yum!
On Thursday we used the interactive whiteboard, some children were inspired to write their names and others drew some beautiful pictures. The children organised themselves independently to make sure that everyone had a go. We went to the woods where the children explored the trees. We enjoyed trying our homemade ice cream for snack. Because Thursday was a hot day, we spent lots of time in the shade where the children challenged their own learning. Some completed puzzles independently and others tried putting different sounds together to make a word. Beau was great at selecting b, a and t to make the word bat. All of the children are so good at identifying sounds and joining in with Fred talk that they are now beginning to do this independently.
On Friday we spent a lovely morning on the field playing different games and exploring the school grounds. We stopped for a socially distanced chat with Mrs Johnson and Mrs Smith. The children that are moving to reception in September were super excited to see their new teachers. In the afternoon we had fun with the water squirters, everyone had lots of fun, poor Julia got rather wet.
