Hello everyone......

 Hi everyone....

We hope you have all had a wonderful weekend and it is lovely to see the beginning of lighter evenings. 

This week we have enjoyed sharing the story of The Gingerbread Man and are great with joining in with the repeated refrains. On Monday morning a group of children made biscuits to take to the care home on Wednesday morning.  On Monday afternoon we made gingerbread people puppets and we were amazing at using the scissors to cut the shape out. We used a variety of media to decorate them with. On Tuesday morning we used the Now Press Play headsets to act out the story of the gingerbread man. We did some great drama. Also a group of children made gingerbread men for our science experiment. Somehow the gingerbread men ran out of the oven and ran away. We went on a hunt all around the school looking for them and made posters to stick up around preschool. On Tuesday afternoon  we did a science experiment to explored what happened when you put a gingerbread man in a liquid of water, oil and milk. We talked about floating and sinking.  Wednesday morning a group of children went to the care home to sing and eat delicious cakes. The other children drew around each other on large paper and then painted their own gingerbread people. In the afternoon we went on a gingerbread hunt in the forest area and found some. On Thursday we did some junk modelling and made gingerbread houses and ovens. We used a variety of tools and techniques in creating these. On Friday morning we used a variety of construction (Duplo, Mega Blocks, lego) to make bridges across the river (Blue fabric). We have enjoyed constructing with the lego and octagons and gears. In the number area we have been matching the correct number of buttons to the numeral on the gingerbread man. We have also been talking about the different emotions on each of the gingerbread men faces.   We have enjoyed marking making in the ginger flour using our fingers. We have also enjoyed using the playdough to cut out gingerbread men using a variety of tools and materials including gems, buttons and pom poms. In the small world area we have been busy acting out the story of the Gingerbread man using the props and characters. The children are amazing with the repeated refrains of the story.  On our finger frenzy table this week we have been threading the gingerbread man outline with the skill of back to front and in and out.

Throughout the week we have begun to learn the Read Write inc picture names in group time. We have learned Maisie next to the mountain, apple, snake, dinosaur, insect, tower. We have also met Fred Frog. Fred Frog can only say sounds and no words.  We have been doing lots of rhyming games and stories. We have added to our rhyming door.

During group time this week we met Reggie the Resilient tortoise friend Rose the Resourceful Spider. 

How can you help your children establish Resourcefulness at home?

Resourcefulness is all about being an independent and imaginative learner, being ready to learn in
different ways and using all of the resources available to help you. The skills for life long learning
that we are aiming to instil are those of Questioning - being curious, going deeper; Making
Links - looking for ideas and concepts that connect together and are meaningful; Imagining - using your minds eye to help you learn; Reasoning - thinking methodically and Capitalising - making the best of resources available.

You can do this through play and day to day activities at home by:

•Encourage questions.
•Demonstrate making links between different ideas.
•Keep imagination alive and celebrate and value a love of adventure. •Help children to find ways of using resources such as reference books, dictionaries, the Internet.

For the next two weeks we will be exploring the story of The Gingerbread Man. We have some great activities planned including some cooking, a trip to Shire Hall, science experiments, drama,  gingerbread man game and lots more

Stay and play morning sessions are now posted next to our door on the window. It would be great to see you. These run once a week on a different morning each week from 8.30am-9.00am. We also have one every half term on a Saturday. This week stay and play is on Thursday morning at 8.30-9.00am. 

On Tuesday evening we have our parent information session in the preschool hall. I will be sharing about Read Write Inc, school readiness and supporting children learning at home.This will start at 8.00pm but please do come along from 7.30pm for nibbles with some of the POWSA parents.

On the Pre-school window is the sign up sheets for parents evening. Please see letter which came home last week for details. 

Applying for Reception Place to start in September 2024

Hello everyone....

 Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a lovely weekend. We had a great first week back at pre-school and loved sharing at group time our Christmas news and adventures. Throughout the week we have been mark making a picture from our Christmas holidays and sharing our news which an adult scribe for us. 

We have enjoyed constructing with the lego and the magnetic lego. In the number area we have been exploring shapes and making shape pictures. We have enjoyed marking making in the coloured sand. We have also enjoyed exploring printing with the numeral stamps and number dot stamps. In the small world area we have been busy making up our own stories with the wild animals, plants and logs. 

Throughout the week we have begun to learn the Read Write inc picture names in group time. We have learned Maisie next to the mountain, apple and snake. We have also met Fred Frog. Also this week on Wednesday a group of children visited the care home to sing songs, listen to a story and eat cake. The children are becoming really confident with talking to the residents. In the afternoon we went to school and played

 on the trim trail and played football on the field. On Thursday we went to soft play and did some cosmic kids yoga. On Friday afternoon we had a special visits from some sausage dogs and we enjoyed taking them on a walk around the school grounds.

Hello everyone.....

Hello Everyone, 

We hope you have had a lovely Christmas and had lots of fun together. We are very much looking forward to hearing all about it during our group times this week! If you would like to please email or bring in some photos. A big thank you from all the pre-school staff for all our lovely Christmas gifts from our amazing families.

This week we will be settling back into pre-school after the Christmas Hols. We will be recalling our Christmas News and mark making a picture from our holidays. We will be beginning to learn the Read Write inc picture cards and continuing with our rhyming games. There will be an information session coming up with more information about this.

Home Learning
