Hello everyone.....

Our Week: Healthy Me

Hello everyone,

We hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend with your families and have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine.

We’ve had a very busy and exciting week at preschool, filled with learning all about our bodies and finding out about our families’ jobs. We have also continued reading the book “This is How We Keep Healthy.”

Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to…

Monday

On Monday, we made our own choice of salad using salad vegetables, ham, cheese, tuna, pasta, and couscous. This was a great opportunity to talk about and try new foods. We practised our cutting skills safely using knives.

We also continued creating our self-portraits for the leavers’ tea towel.

In the afternoon, we had a special visit from Myla’s mum, who is a veterinary nurse. She showed us a variety of tools she uses to look after animals, and the children loved learning about her job.

Tuesday

On Tuesday morning, we had another special visitor — Joe’s mum, who is a doctor. She read us the story Topsy and Tim Go to the Doctor. She brought in some doctor’s tools and showed us how they are used. The children had a go at having their temperature taken, using a stethoscope, and trying a peak flow meter. We really enjoyed the experience — especially the stickers!

A group of children also attended kickboxing, where they practised skills such as press-ups and sit-ups. We worked on our stance and guard positions and played some fun games too.

In the afternoon, some of the children made salads and continued working on their self-portraits.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, a group of children visited the care home, where they enjoyed singing songs, sharing a story, and having some cake together.

Another group created paintings of their favourite plates of food using watercolours.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed our Relax Kids session, taking part in calming activities and going on a peaceful imaginative journey together.

Thursday 🏃‍♂️

Thursday brought our weekly visit to the YMCA gym — always a highlight!

We started with a warm-up game, moving in different ways and quickly finding a hoop to stand in when the music stopped. The children then rotated around a range of activities, including:

  • An obstacle course with rope swings, balancing, and rolly pollys
  • Bouncing on the trampoline and practising sit-down jumps
  • Balancing along beams on our tiptoes

We finished with rope games and a fun game of the Hokey Cokey.

In the afternoon, the children enjoyed visiting Harold the Giraffe, who talked to us about how to look after our bodies and taught us about different body parts. We also had a trip to Reception to listen to a story with Miss Gooden.

Friday 🎈

On Friday, we enjoyed taking part in a sensory walk using artificial grass, sand, water, couscous, and other textures. The children really loved exploring the different sensations.

In the afternoon, we had a lovely time playing outside in the garden.

🌈 Learning Through Play

Throughout the week, the children explored a wide range of play-based activities, including:

  • Constructing with LEGO and tools
  • Exploring shapes such as octagons
  • Creating people using playdough, beads, and tools
  • Threading beads onto pipe cleaner “hair” during Finger Frenzy activities
  • Making repeating patterns
  • Hairdressing role play with doll heads and accessories
  • Sorting healthy and unhealthy foods

📚 Read Write Inc.

We have begun learning our phonics sounds and focused on the sounds ‘m’, ‘a’, ‘s’, and ‘t’ this week. Here are the videos...

The children were introduced to Fred Frog, who can only say sounds rather than whole words. They loved playing “Fred Talk,” listening carefully to sounds and blending them together to make words.

We have also been enjoying lots of rhyming games and stories throughout the week.

📸 Some Pictures from Our Week

We hope you enjoy looking through the photos and seeing some of the wonderful experiences the children have been part of this week.

Next week, we will continue learning how to keep ourselves healthy with a particular focus on sun safety, looking after our teeth and lots more.

We are excited to have some special visitors joining us, and we have lots of engaging activities planned.

Alongside this, the children will continue to enjoy their regular activities such as gym, Relax Kids, kickboxing, outdoor play, and lots of fun learning experiences with their friends.

🏠 Home Learning – Healthy Me

This week, we have been learning all about our bodies, keeping healthy, healthy foods, and people who help us. Here are some simple activities you can enjoy together at home:

🥗 Healthy Eating

  • Help your child make a healthy snack or salad.
  • Talk about different foods and discuss which foods help our bodies grow strong and healthy.
  • Encourage your child to try a new fruit or vegetable.

🦷 Looking After Our Teeth

  • Practise brushing teeth together for 2 minutes.
  • Talk about why it is important to keep our teeth clean and healthy.
  • Can your child remember which foods are healthy or unhealthy for teeth?

👂 Body Parts Game

  • Play “Simon Says” using body parts, e.g. “Simon says touch your knees!”
  • Draw around each other using chalk outside or on paper and label body parts together.

📚 Phonics Fun

We have been learning the sounds:
m, a, s, d

Can your child:

  • Spot objects at home beginning with these sounds?
  • Practise saying the sounds clearly?
  • Play “Fred Talk” by sounding out simple words such as:
    • m-a-t
