Hello everyone....

Hello everyone.....

This week we have enjoyed continuing sharing the story of The Gingerbread Man and are great with joining in with the repeated refrains.

On Monday, Thursday and Friday morning in small groups we have been cooking gingerbread men in the kitchen. We have used the skills of using one handed tools, rolling out our dough and using a gingerbread cutter to make our shape. They looked very yummy and we hope you enjoyed decorating them. We have loved  seeing some pictures. On Monday morning we also had PE and used the Climbing Apparatus in the Pre-school Hall. In the afternoon in groups we created story maps of the Gingerbread Man story. We retold the story and James scribed for us, we then drew pictures from the story. These are up on display in the classroom. On Tuesday morning we had our first Kickboxing session which we all really enjoyed. We went on an adventure as monkeys to rescue the bananas. On Tuesday afternoon  we played a game on the computer with gingerbread man and we had to count his buttons and find the correct numeral. On Wednesday morning we had our trip to Shire Hall which was brilliant. The children went on the minibus and Julia's van and they created their own wanted gingerbread man poster using colouring pencils and tissue paper. The children then when on a tour around Shire Hall to look for the different characters in the story. The children enjoyed exploring and the tour around. They explored the court room trying on the different hats. The children made gingerbread men out of play dough. We had a yummy snack of gingerbread men and listened to the story of the Gingerbread man. In the afternoon we recalled our trip to Shire hall and we made a poster of this. We also used the computer programme Purple Mash to colour in some gingerbread men.

On Friday we went to soft play as it was very cold outside. We also created a new role play area of a hospital. Throughout the week we have been exploring all the frozen ice.

We have enjoyed constructing with the mobilo, magnetic shapes and our new flower construction set.  In the number area we have been matching the correct number of buttons to the numeral on the gingerbread man. We have also been talking about the different emotions on each of the gingerbread men faces.   We have enjoyed marking making  on the whiteboard with the emotion stones. We have also enjoyed using the playdough to cut out gingerbread men using a variety of tools and materials including gems, buttons and pom poms. In the small world area we have been busy using the puppet theatre to retell the story of the Gingerbread man using the puppets. The children are amazing with the repeated refrains of the story.  On our finger frenzy table this week we have been popping bubble wrap. In the water tray we have been bathing and caring for the babies.

Throughout the week we have begun to learn the Read Write inc picture names in group time. We have learned Maisie next to the mountain, apple, snake, dinosaur, insect, tower, net, pirate, girl. We have also met Fred Frog. Fred Frog can only say sounds and no words.  We have been doing lots of rhyming games and stories. We have added to our rhyming door.

During group time this week we met Reggie the Resilient tortoise friend Rose the Resourceful Spider.

How can you help your children establish Resourcefulness at home?

Resourcefulness is all about being an independent and imaginative learner, being ready to learn in
different ways and using all of the resources available to help you. The skills for life long learning
that we are aiming to instil are those of
Questioning - being curious, going deeper; Making
Links
- looking for ideas and concepts that connect together and are meaningful; Imagining - using your minds eye to help you learn; Reasoning - thinking methodically and Capitalising - making the best of resources available.

You can do this through play and day to day activities at home by:

Encourage questions.
Demonstrate making links between different ideas.
Keep imagination alive and celebrate and value a love of adventure. Help children to find ways of using resources such as reference books, dictionaries, the Internet.

Read Write Inc Picture Cards we have learnt....
