Hi Everyone,
We hope you have all had a great weekend. What lovely Autumn weather we have had. We even had our first frost this morning.
Last week we enjoyed sharing a variety of stories about Autumn including we're going on a leaf hunt.
On Monday we did some bubble painting using Autumn colours. The children were great at blowing through the straws and making some great bubbles. In the afternoon on Monday we did some conker rolling down the tubes and we drew a number line. We rolled the conkers down the tube and saw how far our conker rolled using the number line. We also did some conker marbling using paint. We worked as a team to roll the conker around a large tray to create some great painting marbling effect art work.
On Tuesday morning we read the story of We're going on a leaf hunt and acted the story out using the school grounds. We collected lots of different coloured leaves. It was great fun. Also a group of children made apple muffins to take to the care home. In the afternoon a group of children visited Castleview care home for a sing song and story. At pre-school the children explored colouring foil with different colours and then rubbing the foil onto some leaf shapes to see how the colours mix.
On Wednesday we had PE with Colleen and Lauren and we played lots of games which involved negotiating spaces and moving in different ways. A group of children visited the care home to have a sing song and stories along with eating some very apple cakes which we made at pre-school the day before.
On Thursday we had snack in the roundhouse and we had hot chocolate, breadsticks and bananas. We did some leaf threading which involved using a needle and wool. The skills we used was to hold the needle with a pincer grip and to thread back to front and in and out. In the afternoon we played with the helicopter seeds and watched what happened when we threw them in the air. We also played on the trim trail and we were all Reggie Resilient Tortoises. We did lots of climbing and balancing.
On Friday we had basketball with Coach Luca and practiced our passing and catching skills.
Throughout the week we have spent time exploring the conkers in the number area and have done some great counting with the conkers. We have matched numerals 1-5 to quantities. We have been exploring the Autumn objects and animals on the small world table and making up our small world play. We have been using ribbons to thread through the cooling racks. This involved using our pincer grip. We have done some great construction with the mobilo and toolo. We have really enjoyed playing with the farm on the floor. We have continued to enjoy exploring the scales using a variety of seeds from the farm. We have enjoyed exploring filling different sized cups with different sized spoons and pouring the seeds. We have loved mark making with the Aqua draw and paintbrushes with water. We continue to meet Reggie the Resilient Tortoise. He is one of learning powers which encourage us to keep on trying. He enjoys celebrating our resilience with us.
