the last week !!!
Dear parents,
Thank you to all our parents and children who came to the reception /pre school BBQ, I hope you all agree a good time was had by all.
Here we are at the last week of pre school before the summer holiday. This week we hope to spend lots of time outside. We are going to look at the big outdoors book by Shirley Hughes, and start the week with the story of Alfie and his Dad who go camping in the back garden. We hope to make some tents out on the grass.
We will also read Bonting by Shirley Hughes about a pebble from the beach. These are lovely stories to share with the children, look out for them.
Thank you to all our families for the support you have shown us this year. We have had a great year, with lots of lovely activities for the children to explore and learn with. All the staff have greatly enjoyed the time spent experiencing these activities with the children.
Happy holidays !!

literacy week
Hello Everyone,
This week we join the whole school topic of literacy week.
We will be watching a reading of a poem by Kit Wright called the magic box. After some discussion about the magic box the children will be able to make their own magic box and start to fill it with things to make a story.
We will be enjoying lots of favourite stories this week that have been popular with the children over the past year. Can you or your child think of a story they have particularly enjoyed this year ? do let us know.
Also this week children from year 4 will be coming to pre school to build reading dens and then reading the children stories in them. This is always great fun.
Extreme reading..... why not take a picture of your child or the family reading in an extreme/unusual/ different place and bring it in for the main school display. you may be able to e mail it to us. Ask Caroline for details.
THANK YOU to all who came to Mr Gibson's reading talk I hope you all found it useful, and to those who found time to come along to meet him this week individually.
DON'T FORGET, the barbeque on Wednesday after school, it is for ALL pre school families, NO MATTER which school your child will be attending. A lovely, social way to end the school year. ALL VERY WELCOME.
Sadly its the last week next week so don't forget to return library books.
Lastly Monday morning the order goes in for pre school photographs. Hardly anyone has ordered, so hurry if you have forgotten !

up in the air week 2
A short note this week to tell you that we will be continuing on with our up in the air theme this coming week. We were so busy with our Fathers day cards, we didn't have as much time to complete our tasks.
We did read 'The blue balloon' and enjoyed playing with balloons outside. The children did lots of independent writing on the balloons writing their names, words and drawing pictures. It was a lovely spontaneous activity and most of the children got involved.
It is that time of the year when your child's learning journey is being finalised ready for transition to reception class, so may not be in your child's drawer.

up in the air
Our topic 'under the sea' finished last week. The children were very interested in the stories, rhymes, pictures and music we enjoyed related to the theme. They have done some lovely art work, which you can see starting to go up around the room.
This coming week we join the school for science week. Our theme within that is 'up in the air'.
We will be making airplanes and thinking about other things that fly and float in the air such as kites and balloons. so for a change we hope for some windy weather !
Within mathematics and number we will be continuing with exploring numicon and creating and recreating patterns.
sounds and letters will see the children continue to listen to different styles of music and recognise musical instruments. do they do that at home? Also listening to words for the different sounds within them.
Jigsaw will be continuing to think about the next change in the children's life which is the move to reception.

under the sea continues...
Last week we had lot and lots of fun singing along every day to under the sea from the film the little mermaid, the children really enjoyed it and we used musical instruments and our bodies to keep in time to the music.
We also enjoyed 'you've got a friend in me' and it helped us to think about our friendships, and how we should be towards each other.
The children have been continuing to add to their under the sea pictures, as well as collaging star fish.
On Thursday we read the book 'Mr Seahorse' which the children were very interested in and they asked to make 'colourful' seahorses like the ones in the book.
Our jigsaw theme this half term is changes, the main point will be starting reception class and we have lots of stories about starting in reception.
Thank you to all who came along to the summer fair on Saturday, we all had a lovely time, also a big thank you to all those who helped on a stall.
