🌟 Our Week All About Dragons and The Three Little Pigs 🐉🐷
Hello everyone,
We hope you have all had a lovely weekend.
We’ve had a very busy and exciting week in preschool! We began the week exploring dragons on Monday and Tuesday, and from Wednesday we moved into our new theme of The Three Little Pigs. The children have absolutely loved sharing the story and taking part in lots of fun, hands-on activities linked to both themes.
Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to this week…
🥄 Monday
On Monday morning, we were delighted to welcome some very special visitors to preschool. Residents from a local care home joined us to share snack time and enjoy a play session together. The children had a wonderful time showing them our toys, activities, and learning spaces.
We also got creative and made our own dragons using cardboard tubes, pom-poms, and strips of paper — lots of imagination and colour on display!
🥋 Tuesday
Tuesday morning brought a very exciting surprise… a visit from a dragon called Luna! We went to school to meet Luna and were also introduced to a baby dragon that changed colours. The children were completely fascinated and loved every moment of the adventure.
Afterwards, we created our own speech-bubble dragons, talking about what we saw and experienced. In the afternoon, we painted pictures of the baby dragons and enjoyed some fun ring games together in the preschool hall.
🎵 Wednesday
On Wednesday morning, we visited the care home for a lovely sing-song, story time, and cake. The children enjoyed chatting with the residents and proudly telling them all about our dragon visit earlier in the week.
In the afternoon, we took part in our Relax Kids session, where we enjoyed a calming woodland adventure to help us relax and unwind.
🤸 Thursday
Thursday morning was spent at the YMCA Gym, where we had a fantastic time. After our warm-up routine, we played a listening game, moving in different ways to music and finding a cuddly toy when the music stopped.
The children then explored the gym equipment, including the swinging bars, high beam, and obstacle course. This involved lots of climbing, swinging, rolling, jumping, and sliding. We finished with some fun rope games, touching the rope with different parts of our body (nose, bottom!) and jumping over it — lots of giggles all round.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed calm indoor play, exploring the role-play hospital, puzzles, and games.
🍪 Friday
On Friday morning, we created The Three Little Pigs using a variety of media and techniques, including sticking and painting.
In the afternoon, we went on an exciting adventure to build dens to hide from the Big Bad Wolf in soft play. The children worked together using fabrics to make cosy dens and had a wonderful time playing and problem-solving together.
🌈 Learning Through Play
Throughout the week, the children have enjoyed a wide range of learning-through-play activities, including:
-
Constructing with marble runs, plastic straws, Toolo, wooden blocks, and transparent wooden shapes
-
Sorting coloured dinosaurs into matching pots using number and colour dice
-
Playing number games, counting in larger groups, and recognising numerals 1–6
-
Using playdough to create dinosaur worlds, trees, gems, and skeletons
-
Exploring small-world dinosaur scenes with logs and blue fabric
-
Developing fine motor skills using coloured pegs and boards
-
Excavating dinosaur eggs using small tools to scratch and reveal hidden dinosaurs
📚 Read Write Inc – Picture Cards
This week, we began learning Read Write Inc picture names during group time:
m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o, c
We’ve also enjoyed lots of rhyming games and stories throughout the week.
