Cinderella

Hello everyone,

Last week we continued the story of The elves and the shoe maker. We started off the week by watching the Ballet of The Elves and the Shoe maker with Reception on Monday morning in the school hall. We all really enjoyed it and did some great listening. On Tuesday we wore our favourite shoes to school. We stood up at group time and talked about why they are our favourite shoes to wear. All our replies are up on the board in the classroom. On Tuesday afternoon Poppy's Dad came in with some ski and cycling shoes to show us. We were able to ask some great questions. On Thursday morning Mia came in with her different types of dance shoes. We watched her do different dances with the shoes on including ballet, tap and modern. We really enjoyed watching her dance and ask some great questions. On Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon we have been doing some welly print making in paint. We looked at the patterns they made. We also did some shoe sole rubbing with wax crayons. It was interesting comparing the patterns on our shoes with our friends. We have started to make our own 3d shoes using cling film and masking tape. We will be continuing with theses this week. We have also been repotting and planting the baby spider plants up in the poly tunnel. On Tuesday morning we had PE with Mr Treble and we used the apparatus to balance along. Photos up on display. We have started to change into our t-shirts and plimsols for PE.

This week we are going to begin the story of Cinderella which we will be doing for the next 2 weeks. We will be reading the story and doing a variety of activities including designing our own princess  dress and prince waistcoat by exploring mixing colours together, decorating a dress, pumpkin carriage on the computer using purple mash, continuing to make our 3d shoes and lots more fun activities.

The Elves and the Shoe Maker

Hello everyone,

Last week we enjoyed listening to the story of The elves and the shoemaker. It has been great to read different versions of the story. The children have noticed the similarities and differences in the story. We have been drawing around our own feet and guessing how many cubes would fit inside our foot outline. We then filled our foot outline with cubes and counted how many would fit. We really liked our welly throwing game and we used the metre rulers to measure how far we could throw a welly. We have also been using different textured materials to design a shoe. These are up on on display. We have also enjoyed colouring in and painting shoes. We have used the scissors to cut out our shoes. These are also up on display. On Tuesday morning Molly's mum who is a dancer came in with her different dance shoes. We found out all about latin and ballroom shoes, costumes and dancing. We even had a go at dancing and tapping out rhythms. We have also enjoyed playing in the shoe shop role play area. We have also been writing letters to the elves and posting them in our postbox at pre-school.  We had our weekly PE session with Mr Treble on Tuesday morning and we practiced our ball skills and running around games. On Monday afternoon we planted some bulbs in our garden. On Friday afternoon we got the guinea pigs out and held them on our laps. It has been a great week.

This week we will be continuing the story of The elves and the shoemaker story.  On Monday morning we will be joining Reception to watch the Ballet of The elves and the shoemaker. On Tuesday afternoon we have got a visitor coming in to talk about sport shoes. On Tuesday morning we have our PE session with Mr Treble. On Thursday morning we have another visitor coming in to show us their shoes for ballet and tap. We will also be making some shoes this week. We will be doing some gardening and lots more fun learning.
