Hello everyone,

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Communication & Language, Literacy and Maths information morning. If you were unable to make it please do come and see me and we can arranged a time to talk about it. I hope you found it useful.

Last week we enjoyed finding out all about hedgehog. On Wednesday and Thursday morning Helen bought in her hedgehog. In a small group Helen showed us her hedgehog and we fed it dried worms. We found out about what they eat, hibernation and lot's more. If we wanted to we could stroke it remembering to wash our hands afterwards. All of us show how to care and look after the hedgehog.
We listened to the story of The helpful hedgehog and The prickly hedgehog. We learnt a new song called

A hedgehog is very prickly
A hedgehog is very prickly
A hedgehog is very prickly
It couldn't be anything else

We played a number hedgehog game. We had to fill our hedgehogs with spikes. This involved counting out up to 6 wooden sticks from a larger group, recognising numerals 1-6.
We made our own hedgehog pictures using paints and forks, pasta and crayons.

This week we are going to be starting to talk about Christmas and begin to make some decorations.
We are taking part in the Christmas tree festival at St George's Church. The children will be making decorations to hang on our Christmas tree for the festival. Over the weekend the church will be open for visitors. I will put times in the notices below. We are making decorations for the song of 5 snowman on a sledge.
We will be walking to the post box this week to post a surprise to our families. We will be talking about the role of the postman/lady and how the post is delivered. We will be writing the addresses on our envelopes and talking about where we live. On our way to the the post box we will be looking at the numbers and shapes we can spot in our environment.
On Thursday we are having a joint Christmas activities morning with Reception. We will be spending the morning with the Reception children taking part in lots of Christmas activities inside and out.
It's going to be a very exciting week.

Home learning: What reminds you of Christmas? It might be a picture, an object or something you have made. Please bring them in.

Letters and Sounds:Animal sounds
Provide a variety of animal puppets or toys and a range of instruments. Encourage the children to play with the instruments and the animals. Discuss matching sounds to the animals. Give a choice of two instruments to represent a child’s chosen animal and ask the children to choose which sound is the better t: Which one sounds most like the mouse? What do you think, David?

Hello everyone,

Last week we had a great week making our rocket names which are on display in the classroom. we looked for our name card and then had to stick the letters in our name in the correct order. We talked about the sounds and names of each letter.  We then used chalk to draw fire.
On the Chromebook's we used purple mash to make our firework pictures. These are up on display in Room2 above the computers. We really enjoyed talking about our firework experiences.
We took Zoe our new Deputy on a tour around the school to see all the magical places we can use to support and development our learning. We played hide and seek in groups outside. We counted to 20 and found some great places to hide. This was so much fun.
On Friday we supported Children in Need in wearing spots and stripes. Thank you to everyone who supported this. We have raised £441.00 so far. On Friday we coloured our own Pudsey in and made moving Pudsey bears. Our scissors skills are fantastic.

This week we be looking and learning about Hedgehogs. We will be sharing lots of stories and songs about hedgehogs. Helen will be bringing in her hedgehogs which she has rescued.  Can you think about a question you might like to ask Helen about hedgehogs?
We will be playing a number hedgehog game, making hedgehog house for our nature area, making hedgehogs with play dough, paint, leaves and lots more.

This week we will be looking at how special we are and what makes us special.

Letters and Sounds-

Matching sound makers
Show pairs of sound makers (e.g. maracas, triangles) to a small group of children. Place one set of the sound makers in a feely bag.
The children take turns to select a sound maker from the feely bag. Once all the children have selected a sound maker, remind them to listen carefully. Play a matching sound maker. The child with that sound maker stands up and plays it.
This activity can be adapted by playing the sound maker behind a screen so that the children have to identify it by the sound alone.

Hello Everyone,

Last week on Monday we had a pretend bonfire snack. A group of tree made a pretend bonfire at the Round House camp fire area. We all went to the camp fire area and sat on logs around our pretend campfire. We had hotdogs, oranges, peppers and a drink. We talked about the colours and noises of fireworks during group time. We have made our own firework pictures using forks, cardboard tubes and paintbrushes with some lovely glitter and paint. These are on the wall for display. The children have also used chalk and black paper to make a firework picture. We have made chocolate breadstick sparklers. We learnt about how and why chocolates melts. We predicted what would happen to the chocolate and then made them into breadstick sparklers with hundreds and thousands.
On Thursday afternoon we went to school and used all the different musical instruments to create different firework sounds. We explored all the instruments and the sounds they made. We decided which one was our favourite and which firework sounds we could make.  In group time we played the games of guess the instrument. The children really enjoyed using their ears to listen and guess the instruments. Also we sang some firework poems and songs and made up our actions for them. On Friday afternoon the children made some cakes for the bingo and decorated them with cake decorations. The children were fantastic at this and the cakes looked amazing. They were gone very quickly at Bingo.

This week we will be making our own name rockets which will involve us recognising our name and putting our name into the correct order and how many letters are in our names. We will also be using purple mash to make our own firework pictures and recalling our own firework events at home. On Friday we will be raising money for Children in Need and all children can come dressed in spots and stripes. A donation towards this fantastic charity would be greatly received in return for your child dressing up. We will be doing lots of Pudsey, spots and stripes activities.

Home learning

This week we will be doing some activities involving recognising our name. Over the week it would be fantastic if your child could find advertising logos they recognise in their environment. For example the Lidi sign or the McDonald sign. You may like to take a photo of it, drew it or cut out a picture.

Fireworks colours and sounds

Image result for fireworks

Hello everyone,

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Last week we read the story of Pumpkin soup By Helen Copper followed by the story Delicious. The children really enjoyed listening to this story. Following on from this we made pumpkin soup. The children helped prepare all the vegetables by using knives to cut up the vegetables. We also explored pumpkins by opening them up and using different tools e.g. tweezers, spoons etc. We looked at the different textures. Outside in the water tray we explored what happened to pumpkin seeds and pumpkins in water. Also we did some pumpkin rolling down the hills which was great fun. We made our Christmas cards for the printers and these will be coming home for preview and an order form soon. We have really enjoyed using the computers this week and in particular Purple Mash designing on our pumpkins.

This week we will be talking about bonfires and fireworks. We will be exploring and talking about colours, mixing colours and sounds of fireworks. We will be creating our own firework pictures using different techniques and mixing colour. We will be making our own music to represent fireworks. On Purple Mash we will be creating a firework picture and recalling what we saw this weekend. Also we we will be making our own name rockets and decorating the letters of our name in stars. Its going to be a very exciting week.
