Hello everyone...

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a great weekend enjoying the sunshine.

Last week we enjoyed listening to the different variations of Shark in the Park. We listened to Shark in the dark and Oh no, Shark in the snow. We were great at joining in with the repeated refrains. On Tuesday we played the underwater counting game on the interactive tv. Here is a link if you would like to play it home Counting underwater game. In the afternoon and on Wednesday we had great fun exploring and experimenting using the torches in a dark room. We made shark shadows along with other shadows. We talked about what we saw and did. On Wednesday afternoon  and Friday morning we went to the park and had great fun exploring all the playground equipment. We did lots of swinging, sliding, climbing and balancing. On Thursday morning we made a large cardboard shark mouth which we had great fun painting as a team. When it was dried we practiced throwing balls through the sharks mouth. In the afternoon we also made some shark sandwiches which involved using a knife to spread the butter and jam. Throughout the week we have enjoyed exploring the scales using cubes and wooden blocks. We have experimented with what happens when you put different amounts in and used the language of heavier, lighter and balanced. On our finger frenzy table this week we have been practicing our scissors skills. We have been learning to use them one handed. We cut up strips of paper and followed the lines to the animals and vehicles. From the story of Oh no, shark in the snow we had a small world scene of the story. We played alongside others acting out the story. We have been very creative building models with duplo and transparent blocks. We have been busy mark making using our finger in the blue grit, shaving foam and cornflour. In the water tray we have been catching the ducks with nets and counting how many we have caught. We have been building train tracks and testing our tracks out with the trains.

We continue to meet Reggie the Resilient Tortoise. He is one of learning powers which encourage us to keep on trying. He enjoys celebrating our resilience with us.

Here are some photos of the week....

For the next fortnight we are going to be exploring food, faith and farming. We are going to be sharing lots of stories about this topic at group time. We have got some visitors coming into preschool. We will be cooking some yummy foods using eggs. At snack time we will have a variety of foods to eat and will be talking about where each of the foods come from along with lots of other activities to support our learning.

Hello everyone.....

Hello everyone,

We hope you have all had a wonderful weekend with your family and friends.

Last week we have loved sharing the story of Shark in the park and Shark in the park on a windy day by Nick Sharrat in group time. The children were able to join in with the repeated refrains and do the actions for the positional language of the Timothy's telescope.

On Monday we made sharks with sharp teeth. We used the scissors to cut out sharp triangle teeth. These are on display in the classroom. We used the skills of using scissors with one hand and learning how to snip along a line. On Tuesday we made telescopes using cardboard tubes and transparent cellophane. We found out what happened when you looked through the coloured transparent cellophane. We also went on a shark hunt and found a shark in the school pond. We acted out the story of Shark in the park with our telescopes. In the afternoon we played some games in the hall. We played farmers in the den, ring a ring a roses, duck duck goose and the floor is lava. The children loved playing these games. On Wednesday we had PE with Mr Treble and the second group of children went to join in this week. We played lots of fun games which involved following an instruction and using our listening ears. We played sleepy pirate, Traffic lights, duck duck goose and lots more. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon some children cooked some shark biscuits to bring home. The children used a variety of tools and cooking skills like mixing, rolling and cutting. We hope they were tasty. On Thursday we did a science experiment using fairy liquid and some foam shaped fish. We observed what happened when you put fairy liquid on the shark tail and what happened when you didn't. We also explored which objects will roll and not roll down the hill and why this maybe.  On Friday afternoon we went explored the plastral and used lots of gross motor skills like climbing, sliding, running, jumping etc.

Throughout the week we have enjoyed mark making using whiteboard pens and foil. We created some great pictures and marks. we have enjoyed playing with the small world diggers and wooden blocks. We have been busy using our real life experiences to play in the role play home corner. On the finger frenzy table we were using the geo boards and elastic bands and seeing which shapes we could make. In the water tray we enjoyed exploring the different types of seaweed, shells and stones using our senses. We have been busy constructing with the magnetic shapes, wooden blocks and Duplo. In the playdough we rolled out the playdough using the rolling pin and used the shape cutters. We decorated our shapes with gems. At small world table we enjoyed playing with the playmobil park with the scene of shark in the park. In the number area we made unified towers to match a numeral. We talked about which one was tallest and shortest.

We met Reggie the Resilient Tortoise. He is one of learning powers which encourage us to keep on trying. Harold the giraffe came to group time and asked about our favourite things to do.

Here are some photos of the week....

This week we will be continuing with Shark in the park but also looking at the version of Shark in the dark and Oh no, shark in the snow. We have two trips in afternoon to the park this week. We will also be exploring torches and shadows and lots more

Hello everyone.....

WOW, what an amazing first week back we have had. The children have all been amazing and have settled in really well. It has been great spending time getting to know all the children through lots of play inside and outside. Last week we spent lots time exploring our preschool classroom and outside space. We have also been busy looking after the chickens and guinea pigs.

Throughout the week we have been looking in the mirror and painting our self portrait. We talked about our face features and colours. Here is a display of our self portraits.

In group time we have been enjoying a variety of stories and used our great listening ears. We have also met Harold the Giraffe and we told him our names.  Every morning a small group of children have helped prepare snack for everyone. At snack time we have had the challenge of recognising our name card.

On Wednesday morning a group of children had PE with Mr Treble. We played lots of fun games which involved following an instruction and using our listening ears. We played sleepy pirate, Traffic lights and lots more. Next week the other group of children will have PE with Mr Treble.
On Thursday afternoon we enjoyed going to soft play in small groups. We loved playing with the large soft play shapes and the ball pool. On Friday we made cheese on toast for snack, it was very yummy. In the afternoon we put on our all in one suits and wellies and went outside on a puddle walk in the school grounds. We had lots of fun jumping in the puddles.

Throughout the week we have enjoyed playing with the small world diggers and wooden blocks. We have been busy using our real life experiences to play in the role play home corner. We have enjoyed painting lots of pictures with different paint tools. We have been exploring the number peg boards and recognising some numerals and counting out the pegs. We have been busy constructing with the magnetic shapes, wooden blocks and Stickle bricks. We have enjoyed using the whiteboard pens to mark make on the whiteboards. To develop our fine motor skills we have been using the tweezers to pick up the pom poms to put in the pot. We had the challenge of using the tweezers with one hand and with good control. We enjoyed playing at the water tray and using and exploring lots of different water toy resources like jugs, sieves, squirters etc.
In playdough we rolled out the playdough using the rolling pin and used the shape cutters. We decorated our shapes with gems. We enjoyed playing alongside others at the seaside small world scene which had sand, sea creatures, blue fabric, boats, shells, stones and people,

Here are some photos of the week....

For the next two weeks we will be sharing the story of Shark in the Park which is one of the children's favourite stories. We will also be sharing the different variations of the story including shark in the park on a windy day and shark in the dark. This is a great story with repeated refrains and lots of positional language. Throughout the week we will be doing lots of activities linked to the story  and the children’s interests including telescopes, shape hunts, cooking and drama along with lots more.

This week we are also going to meet Reggie the Resilient Tortoise.

Home learning

Visit your local park for a play. Can you swing, jump, balance and climb? Which playground equipment is your favourite?

Share the story of Shark in the park with your family. Here is a link for the story:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjw2mLboml8

Use a clothes peg to make your own shark. You could draw straight onto the peg; just draw on some spikey teeth; cut out a shark shape and stick it on or just use your imagination. Use your shark peg to go around the house and see what your shark can bite and even pick up. Can it pick up some paper? A sock? The stem of an apple? A hair band? Etc. The action needed to use a peg requires important finger muscles that your children need to develop at this age. If you use the peg for a while, they will start to feel it in their fingers!  We would love to see your shark pegs. Please do bring them into show your friends.

Notices

Please do bring in any cardboard tubes you have home this week as we will be making telescopes for our shark hunt.

On Wednesday evening at 7.30pm POWSA have got a meeting in the school hall. It is a great opportunity to support the pre-school/school and meet new friends. If you would like more information please come and ask.

Stay and play morning sessions are now posted next to our door on the window. It would be great to see you. These run once a week on a different morning each week from 8.30am-9.00am. We also have one every half term on a Saturday.
