Christmas is coming...

Hello everyone,

Last week we read the story of the owl babies, the children made owl puppets to bring home and retold the story with their families. If your child retold the story of owl babies it would be lovely to have it on a Wow. For our snack we made edible owls using crackers, raisins and oranges. Some children have made textured owls which are on display in the number area. We talked about the different textures of materials. We have learnt some owl number songs which the children really enjoyed singing. Jennie Jigsaw talked to us about families and who is in our families. It was lovely to see pictures of the children's families. Please do still bring them in if you would like. The children have become very good and finding the matching rhyming word during different stories we have read.

This week we will be starting our theme of Christmas by starting with the story of 'The Christmas Robin.' I have chosen this story for the St Georges Church Christmas tree festival which we take part in each year. We will be making robins, bird feed, stars, baubles and crackers to display on the Christmas tree at the church. We will be talking about why it's important to feed the birds during winter. On Friday evening at St Georges church it is the "Carols on the green" and the opening of the Christmas tree festival. Over the weekend the church is open for the festival. I will post more information about this on Thursday evening.

We will also be starting our Christmas baking this week. The children will be following a recipe and the instructions for our Christmas bake. We will be using scales to measure our ingredients out.

Owl Babies

Hello everyone,

Hope you have all had a good weekend.

Last week we had some stories about rockets including Whatever next, Qpottle 5 and Whoops it wasn't me. The children really enjoyed listening to these stories. The children made their own rockets out of junk modelling and these are hanging in the classroom. We made our own breadstick sparklers and explored what happens when you heat up chocolate. The children finished their firework pictures adding glitter to them. In the garden this week the children have planted some garlic. we have been making sounds with our bodies and putting them into a sequence. Jennie jigsaw shared a story about Barry the fish with fingers and we talked about how we are all special.

This week we will be looking at the story of owl babies along with other owl stories. The children are interested to find out about owls as a child bought a poster in about owls and they wanted to find out more. We will be making our own owl puppets so the children can retell the story to you at home, owl number game recognising numerals upto 6, talking about what we know about owls, collaging owls with different textures and lots more. We will be also exploring torches and the dark.

Jennie Jigsaw

We will be looking at our families and who in our families, this goes very well with the story of the owl babies.

Letters and Sounds

The children have really enjoyed finding words that rhyme last week so will be continuing with this. We will also be singing some owl songs.

Home learning

As we are talking about families this week, it would be lovely if the children could bring in a family photo to go on our Jennie Jigsaw board along with the children talking about their family during circle time.
If you would like to bring something in to do with our learning of owls, please do. It could be a picture, something you made or a story about owls.

Hello everyone,

Hope you all have had a nice weekend.

Last week we talked about the sound of fireworks and then found musical instruments to match the could we thought of. From doing this we learnt some of the names for different musical instruments. We talked about our experiences from firework night. We used different coloured paints to explore what happens when you mix them through strawing blowing and finger painting on foil. On Monday we had a bonfire snack including peppers, oranges and hot-dogs outside around a pretend fire the children made. It was a little chilly but the children enjoyed it very much. We have been recognising and finding our own name and decorating the letters with stars. Some of us knew the sound of the letter our name began with. Also it was world nursery rhyme week and we sang some of our favourite nursery rhymes in the roundhouse and outside in the school playground.

This week we will be finishing off our firework paint pictures with glitter. We will start making our own rockets using junk modelling, if you have any resources that may help with this please bring them in. We will be reading some rockets stories like whatever next. We will be making some breadstick sparklers and exploring what happens to chocolate when you melt it. In the hall we will be playing some running around games which involves negotiates spaces successfully adjusting speed and direction to avoid obstacles.
On Friday it is children in need day and we will be doing lots activities involving spots. Children may come in dressed with spots.

Jennie Jigsaw:-

This week we will be looking at how special we are and what makes us special.

Hello everyone,

We have had a great week back from half term. It has been lovely to see what the children have been up to in half term and pictures of the children's cress seeds they have grown.

Last Week we read they story of Spinderella which the children really enjoyed. We did lots of counting and looking a group of objects with the same number. The children made their own spiders and webs to go with them which are now on display in room2.
Jennie Jigsaw has been asking the children about what they are good at and the children have given some lovely ideas which are on the jigsaw display. On Thursday morning we look at the month of November in the book of One year with Kipper. It was all about the cold frosty nights and blowing warm air into cold air. We went on our own adventure to look at the frost and blow our warm air out into cold air to see what happens. The children were really interested to see what happens. Pictures will be on display in the next couple of days.

This week we are going to be talking about fireworks and the sounds they make. We will be using the musical instruments to represent these sounds. we will also be exploring colours and mixing colours using paint to make our own firework pictures, making our own rockets using junk modelling and recognising our name and the letter sounds and decorating the letters using stars. On Monday we will be having our firework snack outside on logs around a pretend fire the children are going to make. We will be having hotdogs and fire coloured fruit.

World Nursery Rhyme week

This week it is world nursery rhyme week and we would like to take part. All Years - Christmas Cards - 2nd November 2016

Christmas card orders
We received communication today that the online ordering for the xmas cards has now failed completely. The company are reverting to paper orders and a pack is being sent to school. As far as we are aware any successful online orders are still valid but all others will need to complete paper order forms and bring money to school. This is not an ideal situation however POWSA are at hand to help you solve any issues and can take cash or cheques.

So, on Friday 4 th November and Monday 7 th November before and after school POWSA will be manning a table in the foyer where you can fill in the order forms and hand over cash or cheques.  We apologise for this inconvenience, however this is out of our control and are working hard to make the process successful!
