Our library week will continue for some of the children this coming week, either going on the trip or completing activities.
The children chose some great books this week to share with each other, including winter weather books, books about birds and recipe books. That gives you a clue as to our topics and themes for the next 2 weeks!
We will be enjoying and learning about ice and snow, and looking at changes.
The children will be thinking about the different ways we can look after the birds in this cold weather including making bird food.
We will also be looking at recipe books and making a list of things we would like to make.
This coming week the children's activities will include threading, mixing and stirring, that is using one handed tools safely.
We will be listening in small groups to stories about snowy weather and looking at our 'Kipper's year book' to see what Kipper does on the !st February.

the library
A super week last week, the children loved the book 'You Can't Take an Elephant on the Bus' We used it for recall activities, sounds and letters, counting on, good listening, painting, drawing and role play. I hope the children shared their enjoyment of the book with you at home, do let us know if they did.
This week we are off to the library. We are going to base our week on the trip, the books we borrow, and anything the children show an interest in.
Our challenge this week is linked to our trip to the library. When we get there the children will have a challenge to complete !It may be finding a book about something or a type of book etc.
Apologies to all those children who were due to go on Wednesday, The bus is needing mechanical work so we have had to borrow the bus from Chesilborne school. Unfortunately the bus is not available this Wednesday, but we have managed to re book for the following week so every child will be able to go. You have a letter in your pigeon hole.
A big thank you to Sue who will have to go out there to collect the bus over 2 weeks.
No swimming Tuesday morning.

You Can't Take an Elephant on the Bus
Last week the children continued with the vehicle theme. The children all worked together to create a vehicle display. We set a 'goal' for everyone who wanted to help make the picture to contribute.
The children have also been enjoying making vehicles models from 'junk' This is taking a bit longer than we anticipated as the children have really focused and thought about what they want to achieve.
At the end of the week we read the book, 'You Can't Take an Elephant on the Bus'. The children loved it and found it very funny! So this week we will continue with the theme of the book. There are lots of different animals and vehicles of different sizes in this book to think and talk about.
So we will be talking about sizes and weight, and how different vehicles move.
SOUNDS AND LETTERS
Also last week the children played lots of rhyming games, we will continue those this week, so if your child is enjoying rhyming at home PLEASE fill in a WOW. We do use all your WOW's in your child's learning journey's to show their progress.
Our other goals this week will be setting a goal to complete an obstacle course, and making a poster of our goals.

vehicles
After a successful week of creating vehicles using construction with big builders, bricks and duplo and junk modelling, we continue this week with the same topic.
We will finish the week with a book called 'You can't take an elephant on the Bus' by Patricia Cleveland-Peck. I have chosen this book because its funny, which the children love, it has some landmarks, pictures of tickets which we will be making when we have the big role play bus out. Also lots of different vehicles, and animals which is a topic the children are interested in, and we hope to do the following week.
The children have also been doing very well completing challenges, and have enjoyed getting their challenge certificates when they have completed a task. We will also continue that JIGSAW theme this week.
We have taken down the lovely pictures and art work the children did at home and brought in, so if anyone wants to do a picture, painting, take a photograph of something you have done and bring it in that would be great.
We will continue to talk about sizes, and ask questions such as which is the biggest? smallest? etc. why not try at home, and fill in a WOW to tell us all about it.
STAY and play starts this week on Wed 13th January,
Thurs 21st Jan
Wed 27th Jan
Thurs 4th Feb
Wed 10th Feb

Welcome back !!
Dear All,
Happy new year to you all and welcome back to the spring term.
We start this week by thinking about January, new years resolutions and our JIGSAW theme, which is 'dreams and goals'.
With our activities we will be talking about challenges and setting the children challenges to complete.
At home.... can you think of something tricky for your child to do and set them a challenge to complete it, let us know on a WOW if you do.
Our topic will be vehicles, we have lots of fun activities to enjoy one of which will be a challenge to make a vehicle from boxes etc. (junk modelling!)
We have lots of vehicle and truck books to read and enjoy this week, including a favourite rhyming book, 'Duck in a truck' which we will be using for sounds and letters.
Stay and play sessions start next week, on 2 different mornings. I will let you know which mornings later in the week.
Many thanks for all our christmas gifts and treats, all most appreciated.
