Christmas starts here !!

Dear All,
We had lots of fun singing jingle bells last week, playing along with bells and shakers and listening to the cd.
We have been collaging bells, making reindeer and using our scissor skills to make snowflakes. Some the children will be bringing home, and some will be for the pre school Christmas tree at the Christmas tree festival at St George's church Fordington.

This week, promises to be very busy! On Monday we will be spending all day with reception class taking part in Christmas crafts, games and listening activities.
The rest of the week we will be having a go at pre writing and writing skills, continuing with our Christmas crafts and games, stories and of course singing.
DON'T FORGET to sign your child's permission slip to walk to the post box. They cannot go without a signed slip.

Thank you to those children who have drawn a picture of their house for our display. If your child hasn't had a go it's not too late. (of course you can help or model how to draw your house). Also don't forget to put your house number on.

jingle bells !

Dear All,
The children enjoyed our story of the helpful hedgehog very much this past week, we read they story, talked about the meaning, and retold the story by looking at the pictures.
We have been voting for our favourite apple dish from the story, and this week we will be preparing and enjoying some of them at snack time, also finishing some activities from the past week.

Our theme for this week is the song 'jingle bells'. Every year we make Christmas decorations to decorate a tree at the St George's church Fordington Christmas tree festival. (details of opening times etc. next week).
The theme this year is Christmas music, so we have chosen jingle bells. The children will have the opportunity to make decorations, and we will be learning and singing the song.
We will also be thinking about sounds this week, b (bells), and s (snow), how many words can we think of that start with those sounds?
Number. We will be exploring number by matching quantity to numerals this week. For example taking the number 4 and finding the correct number of items to match it.

JIGSAW, houses and homes, can your child draw a picture of their home to bring in? We will be having a go at this in pre school as well, writing your house number on the front  and decorating the pictures with christmas trees and decorations.

NUTS. a few of the children in pre school have a nut allergy. One of our Mums puts a slip of paper in their child's lunch box saying 'NUTS'  We find this very helpful, so if you are putting nuts in your child's lunch box and could remember to do the same we would appreciate it. Thank you.

hedgehogs

Hello everyone,
This past week the children showed great interest and enjoyment in the book 'The Queen's Hat' we had great fun looking at the London landmarks, and talking about them.
On Wednesday morning the children had a joint morning with Reception, this was great fun, we made maps, pictures of the London skyline and painted flags, everyone took part really well.

This week one of our books will be 'The very Helpful Hedgehog ' by Rosie Wellesley. One of the themes of the book is 'without friends to help you what will you do?' and the other theme will be thinking about hedgehogs and other creatures who hibernate in the Autumn and Winter.

Within these two themes the children will be taking part in counting activities, counting and matching numerals to quantities, using spider and hedgehog games.

SOUNDS AND LETTERS. Last week we had great fun at singing, I showed the children a picture from our topic book and they had to think of a song that would match the picture. I shall continue this week with that activity. The children are also using their 'super power' to listen , so lots more listening activities.

We have a new table top light box which we will be using this week to make hibernating pictures. using cellophane and dark colours, looking at the differences and similarities.

JIGSAW will see us thinking about friendships and why we are special.
At home why not look at family photos and talk about how some times we may look like each other, and who looks different now to how they did a long time ago, what makes us special.

Thank you to those who came to the coffee morning/info session. As many of you were not able to attend, please take time to let me know which morning may suit you better. I will go with the majority for a session after Christmas.
Despite the low numbers and thanks to the Opportunity group staff and parents, we were able to raise £50 in the memory of Fiona Trevett, which I have sent to the Weldmar Hospice Trust.

PLEASE NOTE: Joint sessions will take place with Reception throughout the year on different mornings so everyone will have plenty of opportunities.

the Queen's Hat by Steve Antony

Dear All,
This week we are taking part in a whole school themed week surrounding Britishness. Foundation stage (pre school and reception) are taking their inspiration from a book 'The Queen's Hat by Steve Antony. We will be reading the story and looking at the London landmarks through the book. We will be using the pictures to count and the colours for crafts.
The children will have opportunities to build bridges and towers and palaces in construction and small world
play making London Zoo.

Friday is children in need day, so if Friday is a session day for your child, we will be joining the whole school to wear red, white and blue (or any combination of those 3 colours) and taking part in  the school children in need ramble. ( donations to children in need if you would like.

If you and your family have been to London, do you have a picture you can share with us.?
We are still collecting numbers for our number hunt poster.
Don't forget our information session on 10th Nov. Do come along even if its for a coffee and a chat.!

Swimming sessions are as they were before half term whilst I find a fair 'rota' to give as many children as possible a turn. The swimming pool is only open Tues,Wed,Thurs. and Thursday it is used by school so we have limited availability as you can see.

fireworks !

Hello All,
Welcome back to a very busy and exciting half term with Christmas on the way. However lots to enjoy and learn before we start our festivities.

This short week our topic will be fireworks, With lots of art and craft activities, an IT activity and a sweet treat.
JIGSAW will be thinking about what we are good at. The children will all be able to tell us what they are good at, which we will turn into a picture. What is everyone good at in your family?. The children love hearing what the adults in their family are good at! Share with us on a WOW if you would like.

SOUNDS AND LETTERS. We will be using our 'super power' of being a good listener this week to listen to the sounds fireworks make, then the children having a go at making up sounds of fireworks themselves.

We will be continuing this week to count and match  numbers  numerals. We are still making our number hunt poster, so its not too late to bring in a picture of a number found in a magazine or newspaper, or a photograph of a number you have seen when out and about.

We welcome Julia back to pre school from her maternity leave. She will be in year 2 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

DON'T FORGET our information session on TUESDAY 10th NOVEMBER, at drop off, please try and find time to pop in, there will be things to look at, and Julia and I will be there to answer any questions. There will also be a small cake sale in memory of Fiona Trevett, one of our past mums who sadly passed away last month.
