Easter

We had a busy week this past week. Some of us went to the Farm and saw the lambs and chickens. Many of the children have been painting pictures of blossom and we have all been talking about tadpoles and frogs and reading tadpole and frog stories.

Have you got any tadpoles in your garden? If you have why not write a WOW after talking about them with your child, or draw a picture.

This week is the last week of the spring term, so we will be talking about and celebrating Easter.
We will be having a craft week with lots sticking, paints and printing. with easter eggs, bunny ears and lots more.
We will also be having easter egg hunts, so hope for some fine weather.

NEXT STEPS, for the whole group this week will be expressive arts and design (EAD).
Physical Development (PD) moving and handling, running and moving. Also handling one handed tools.

JIGSAW continues to be healthy choices both in the food we eat and the exercise we enjoy.

SOUNDS AND LETTERS will be playing musical instruments, using shakers, claves and bells to listen to a beat.
Does your child have a favourite musical instrument, do you enjoy music at home? fill in a WOW !

We wish you all a very Happy Easter, and a lovely spring holiday.  AG

Spring

This past week we concentrated on making our cards for mothers day and having a go at writing our names. We hope you all had a lovely mothers day.
Our favourite book last week was called 'Fox in the dark' it was a new book but the children were able to join in with the repeated refrain very quickly, and we had a great time with the story.

The next two weeks we are going to discover and explore the start of Spring growing, blossom and buds, lambs and Easter. We also have tadpoles to look at and watch grow.
On Wednesday we are going to the farm, where we will be looking out for signs of spring.

FROM HOME. can you find anything for our nature table to do with spring, or draw a picture of something you have seen that is a sign of spring coming.

Our Jigsaw for the next two weeks is how sleep is an important part of looking after ourselves, as is keeping clean. So our talking topic at snack time will be washing hands for eating, washing hands when preparing food, and at other time such as when we go to the farm.
We will be having dolls and bears bed, cot and blankets in the home corner to encourage role play about bed time and sleeping.

Our next steps for the whole group this week will be understanding the world,- (the world) and understanding the world ,-( technology) Thinking about spring, and recording our trip in different ways such as cameras and recording pegs!

Please do not worry if your child does not come to pre school Wednesday, we have two more trips planned before the end of the school year. AG

a special topic !

We completed the 'Big Book Challenge' this past week, enjoying stories outside, poems and a story without pictures. We read the stories of the Large Family, by Jill Murphy. Lots of the children looked at pictures and found 10 things in an  illustration. Some children acted out the Dear Zoo story with puppets. Look out for a display later in the week which will show you what we did.

This week we will be looking at books and stories about Mummy's, and thinking about how important our Mummy or special carer is to us.
On Friday it is comic relief day and we will be painting funny faces and making funny faces, using cameras to record the day as part of our IT stage of development.

Our NEXT STEPS as a whole group will be Physical development, (PD) moving and handling and Literacy (L) writing, holding pencils and scissors, and mark making and writing.
SOUNDS AND LETTERS, will be playing musical instruments, listening to instructions and stopping playing when instructed.

JIGSAW is about being physically active, we will be thinking about the importance of physical activity, and what is our favourite. Why not write a WOW to tell us what is your families favourite activity, swimming, ?bike rides? etc.

Look out for the adverts for the schools Spring Fest on Friday 20th March, it promises to be a great evening and lots of fun for all the family !

world book day

This past week we enjoyed the book 'Dear Zoo' by Rod Campbell. The children loved retelling the story, and we had a go at rewriting the book with different animals, thinking of words to describe them.
On Wednesday we had a super morning with year 2, making masks and acting out the story, and writing.
Then on Thursday we really enjoyed a drama session with Victoria from debutots.
All the children who took part in these activities did really well and joined in with great enthusiasm.

This week we are celebrating world book day, and are going to take part in the 'Big book off challenge' we plan to complete at least one challenge from each category of the challenge. The categories are,
create
imagine
explore
discover
experience
and the activities include stories with puppets, poems, 10 things i can see in an illustration, talking about the library and many more.

So, as a group the children's next steps will be thinking about stories, how they end, suggesting different endings and discovering information through print.
Next steps for number will be more activities using numicon.

JIGSAW, in our busy week last week we still found time at snack  to talk about healthy options. We will continue that this week and we will also think about how moving in play, dance, exercise etc are healthy choices.
