We have had a brilliant morning with year 2, enjoying the Dear Zoo story through drama and craft. Some of the children have been having a go at writing, well done today pre school, everyone did so well !
We are looking forward to our drama session tomorrow!
There has been a great deal of confusion over swimming sessions.
The school pool is a lovely treat we try very hard to let all the children experience.
We must be as fair as possible.
The school does have priority over the time table.
It is only open 3 days a week.
To that end, as was written in my letter in October, and our most recent newsletter this half term swimming is
TUESDAY MORNING, TUESDAY AFTERNOON and WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
then next half term that will change to wednesday morning.
you will have a blue slip in your pigeon hole if your child has a swimming session this half term.

drama week
We have an exciting week planned this coming week. We are joining the school for a week of drama.
We are basing our week around the book by Rod Campbell, 'Dear Zoo'.
On Monday and Tuesday we will be enjoying the story, and using it to be imaginative and suggest how a story might end, We will be talking about how the children might like to change the characters and key words, which are
big, tall, scary, fierce, jumpy, grumpy, naughty, perfect.
With some of the children we will have a go at writing our own story with different animals and extend their vocabulary by using different words. (CL, L )
On Wednesday the children will be enjoying a morning of drama with year 2 based around the book, and on Thursday we have Victoria from Debutots coming in for a drama session. (please do not worry if your child is not in on those mornings, we are making sure all the children will experience mornings at school.)
NEXT STEPS. The children will be making animal masks, for a drama session, and experiencing lots of role play this week (EAD; being imaginative)
Experiencing number through numicon (MD ; numbers as labels for counting)
JIGSAW our theme this half term is healthy me, and this week we will be making healthy choices. In what we eat, and how we play. (PD)
Please note; NO SWIMMING on wednesday mornings this half term. Swimming will be on TUESDAY morning, Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon

farm to fork
This week we join the school to explore and learn with the topic 'farm to fork'.
With Reception we have chosen to focus on honey and bees using the book Honey Biscuits' by Meridith Hooper.
Some of the activities planned include planting seeds to grow flowers to attract bees this summer, making honey biscuits and honey sandwiches, making bees and printing with hexagonal shapes.
For this week our next steps as a group will use the book to focus on sequencing a story, and the order of a recipe. ( L and CL ) . Also sequencing and pattern making (MD)
SOUNDS AND LETTERS next steps will be listening for initial sounds in words.
We will also be making patterns using hexagons, Can you find a picture of a hexagon at home ? and bring it in to pre school to share.
JIGSAW. We will be reflecting on the past half term and thinking of what we have achieved this term, from the children's learning, exploring, activities and play we will have observed the children's achievements and will be able to encourage them to think about what they have achieved.
Last week the children did so well working as teams to complete tasks such as cooking, and playing shape games, sharing skills and learning new ones together.
Remember the next steps as a group is a general way we are moving forward, we also plan next steps for your child as individuals or in small groups.
Don't forget we break up for half term on Friday, and very importantly its our BINGO NIGHT on Friday. Times and details have been sent to you all, and a cake or cakes to sell for the refreshments would be much appreciated.
Happy half term after another buzzy ( !!) week at pre school.

our library books
This past week we have continued to enjoy reading and exploring more of the books the children borrowed from the library.one of the favourites was 'football frenzy', and after reading it more than once we enjoyed a morning with the sports leaders from the middle school.
On Tuesday all the children enjoyed the morning or afternoon in reception class exploring and enjoying activities for Chinese New Year.
Many of the children have been doing some amazing writing, and lots are having a go at writing their name. If your child does some writing at home why not complete a WOW or bring in a copy for their learning journey.
This coming week the children are going to use more of the library books, to do some cooking, explore with paint to make patterns, and make their own jigsaw puzzles of their names. The children will also be dressing up and role playing different occupations.
NEXT STEPS for the whole group this week will be using one handed tools with increasing control (PD),
and shapes (MD). We will be looking at shapes in our environment, and using the correct mathematical terms for flat 2D shapes.
SOUNDS AND LETTERS, will continue to be listening carefully to words and asking do they rhyme? for example do cat and mat rhyme? do fox and house rhyme? We use small short words such as house /mouse, cat/mat/hat, fox/box/socks, hen/pen, car/jar .
JIGSAW this coming week we will be encouraging the children to help each other to learn and practice skills, through cooking, playing board games, and outside games (weather permitting) using obstacle courses. At home talk about what everyone is good at and can you help each other to learn something new. Also look at books at home about different occupations, and ask what the characters in the stories are good at.
The next stay and play is Wednesday 4th February, 8.30 am until 9.10 am.
